THE DEATH OF MAGGIE SMITH
Ayon sa dalawa, payapang binawian ng buhay ang kanilang ina habang ito ay nasa Westminster Hospital sa London, England.
Pahayag nina Toby at Chris (ayon sa ulat ng BBC News): "It is with great sadness we have to announce the death of Dame Maggie Smith.
"She passed away peacefully in hospital early this morning, Friday 27th September.
"An intensely private person, she was with friends and family at the end. She leaves two sons and five loving grandchildren who are devastated by the loss of their extraordinary mother and grandmother.
"We would like to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful staff at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for their care and unstinting kindness during her final days.
"We thank you for all your kind messages and support and ask that you respect our privacy at this time."
THE LEGACY OF THE LATE MAGGIE SMITH
Si Maggie ay isa sa hinahangaang aktres sa pelikula, telebisyon, at teatro sa loob ng pitong dekada niya sa industriya.
Kilala si Maggie sa pagganap niya bilang Professor Minerva McGonagall sa film series na Harry Potter, at bilang Dowager Countess of Grantham, sa ITV-PBS series na Downton Abbey.

Dahil sa husay sa pagganap ni Maggie, pinarangalan siya sa ilang prestigious award giving-body gaya ng Oscars, Tony, Golden Globes, at BAFTA (British Academy Film Awards).

Taong 1970 nang mapanalunan ni Maggie ang kauna-unahan niyang Oscar best actress award para sa natatangi niyang pagganap bilang schoolmistress sa The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1969).
Nakuha naman niya ang kanyang ikalawang Oscars, sa pagkakataong ito bilang best supporting actress, para sa comedy film na California Suite (1978).
Nakakuha rin siya ng Oscar nominations para sa mga pelikulang Travels With My Aunt (1972), Othello (1965), A Room With a View (1985) at Gosford Park (2001).
1990 nang mapanalunan naman niya ang best actress sa Tony Awards dahil sa kanyang pagganap sa stageplay na Lettice and Lovage (1987).
Naiuwi rin ni Maggie ang dalawang best supporting actress awards sa Golden Globes, para sa California Suite at Room with a View.
Sa BAFTA naman, nanalo siyang best actress para sa The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1969), A Private Function (1984), A Room with a View (1985), at The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne (1988); at best supporting actress para sa Tea With Mussolini (1999).
