BTS J-Hope finishes military service in South Korea
BTS' main dancer J-Hope finishes his 18-month mandatory military service today, October 17, 2024, becoming the second member of the group to finish his military duty after Jin.

Jung Hoseok a.k.a J-Hope of K-pop supergroup BTS was finally discharged from mandatory military service today, October 17, 2024, becoming the second member of the group to finish his military duty after Jin.

Wearing a military uniform and black beret, J-Hope emerged from the gates of the army base in Central Wonju City, where he was met by fellow bandmate Jin, who finished his military service in June.

A livestream video from SBS News, a news outlet in Korea, showed J-Hope smiling and saluting outside the camp gate when Jin approached him and gave him a bouquet of flowers.

They were also seen entertaining fans as they strike poses together, with Jin even posing to hold microphones up for J-Hope as he is interviewed by members of the press.

J-HOPE'S LIVESTREAM

Following his military discharge, J-Hope went live on Weverse to interact with ARMYs (BTS' fandom name).

He said: "I can't believe that this day came.

"I keep saying this, but due to your cheers and wishes, I was able to do well.

"Let's now walk on a flower road. Thank you so much."

On October 17, 2022, Big Hit Music made the announcement that all members of BTS would enlist in the military, with Jin going first.

The seven members of BTS have been completing their service, in which South Korean law requires all able-bodied South Korean men from ages 18 to 28 to serve for about two years in the military to defend the country from its nuclear-armed neighbor, North Korea.

Exemptions, however, are given to athletes, classical and traditional musicians, and ballet and other dancers who have won top places in international competitions as they have "enhanced national prestige."

Meanwhile, the other members of BTS composed of RM, Suga, V, Jimin, and Jungkook, will be expected to reunite with Jin and J-Hope in 2025 after completing their military duty.
