Netflix has officially revealed Park Sung-Hoon’s much-anticipated role in the second season of Squid Game.
The popular Korean actor will play Hyun Joo, a transgender woman who joined the dangerous contest to get funds for her gender-affirming surgery.

In the Meet the Cast video released by Netflix on Thursday, December 5, 2024, Sung-Hoon says his character is a former special forces soldier who has “incredible strength, decisiveness, and natural leadership.”

The character is a bit controversial in South Korea, where transgender men and women face high levels of discrimination.
“Through her resilience, she breaks down stereotypes and shines as an inspiring character,” Sung-Hoon said.
Sung-Hoon is known for his roles in Queen of Tears and The Glory.

Lee Jung-jae returns as Seong Gi-Hun, the winner of the game in the first season. He returns to Squid Game to try to end it’s violence.

Lee Byung-Hun returns as the Front Man, who oversees the games.

Wi Ha-Joon returns as Hwang Jun-Ho, the police officer who discovered in the first season that his long-lost brother is the Front Man.

Lee Seo-Hwan returns as Jung-Bae, Gi-Hun’s friend in the first season who now enters the Squid Game.

Im Si-wan pays a new character, Myung Gi, a YouTuber who invests in cryptocurrency.

Kang Ha-neul also plays a new character named Dae-Ho, a former marine officer.

Lee Jin-uk plays Gyeong Seok, who enters the game to cover his daughter’s hospital bills.

Choi Seung-hyun, who is more popularly known as T.O.P. from Big Bang, plays a new character named Thanos, a retired rapper who joins the games after losing his money in a crypto scam.

Jo Yu-ri, another K-pop star, plays a new character named Kim Jun-Hee, who joined the games to help his boyfriend, who is deep in debt.

Kang Ae-sim and Yang Dong-geun are mother-and-son duo Park Yong-sik and Jang Geum-ja, who enter the game together.


Squid Game 2 will premiere on December 26 on Netflix.
