Hollywood actress Hunter Schafer, best known for her role in the hit HBO series Euphoria, criticized U.S. gender policy under President Donald Trump, citing issues with changes to her passport details

In a now-deleted TikTok video posted on Thursday, February 20, 2025, the transgender star expressed shock upon discovering that her new passport had changed her gender marker from "female" to "male."

Hunter explained that she has been identified and recognized as female in official documents, including her passport, for several years, dating back to her teenage years.

However, Hunter admitted that she had not updated the gender marker on her birth certificate, which she speculated may have partly caused the change in her passport details.

“My initial reaction to this, because our, you know, President is a lot of talk, was, I’ll believe it when I see it,” an irked Hunter said in the video.

“And today, I saw it on my new passport: male.”

Hunter Schafer: "This is real, and it’s happening."

Hunter didn’t mind the change in her passport, saying, “It doesn’t really change anything about me or my transness.”

But she feared that the inconveniences it may cause her while traveling.

“I’m pretty sure it’s gonna come along with having to out myself to Border Patrol agents and that whole gig much more often than I would like to or is really necessary."

Hunter continued, “I just feel like it’s important to share that it’s not just talk, that this is real, and it’s happening.

“And no one, no matter their circumstance, no matter how wealthy or white or pretty or whatever, is excluded. This is real.”

She further said, “I just wanna say trans people are beautiful.

"We are never going to stop existing.

"I’m never gonna stop being trans, a letter on a passport can’t change that, and f*ck this administration.”

TRUMP'S CONTROVERSIAL POLICY AGAINST LGBTQIA+

Since taking office in January 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a series of executive orders affecting various social groups, including immigrants and the LGBTQIA+ community.

One of Trump's most controversial orders mandated that the state recognize only two sexes: male and female.

Since the 1980s, the U.S. has made significant strides in recognizing and supporting the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer communities by granting them equal rights and protecting them from discrimination.

In recent years, this progress has extended to acknowledging genders beyond the male-female binary and ensuring that individuals who identify outside of traditional gender categories are not discriminated against.

This shift has also led to greater equality in the workplace, including in government offices, where skills, qualifications, and capabilities are prioritized over a person's sexual orientation or gender identity.

Trump, however, sees this differently, claiming that "these sexes are not changeable and are grounded in fundamental and incontrovertible reality."

His supporters, particularly religious conservatives and right-wing groups, have condemned the expanding rights granted to transgender individuals.

In doing so, Trump's directive reversed the policies implemented by his predecessor Joe Biden that were designed to promote inclusivity and recognition of diverse gender identities in the U.S.
