Pumanaw na ang legendary pop-R&B singer na si Roberta Flack nitong Lunes ng umaga, February 24, 2025 (U.S. time).

Siya ay 88.

Kinumpirma ng representative ni Roberta ang pagpanaw ng singer sa pamamagitan ng statement na unang lumabas sa Variety.

Nakasaad dito: “We are heartbroken that the glorious Roberta Flack passed away this morning, February 24, 2025.

“She died peacefully surrounded by her family. Roberta broke boundaries and records. She was also a proud educator.”

Hindi nakasaad sa statement ang sanhi ng pagkamatay ng singer.

BACK-TO-BACK GRAMMYS RECORD OF THE YEAR

Ayon sa ulat ng Variety, unang nakilala ng publiko si Roberta nang gamitin ng actor-director na si Clint Eastwood ang two-year-old version ni Roberta ng kantang “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” para sa 1971 directorial debut ni Clint na Play Misty For Me.

Sinundan ito ng isa pang hit song ni Roberta noong 1973, ang “Killing Me Softly With His Song.”

Dahil sa dalawang hit songs niyang ito ay nakamit ni Roberta ang Record of the Year sa Grammys sa magkasunod na taon—1973 ("The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face") at 1974 (“Killing Me Softly With His Song”).
