Hollywood actress Catherine O’Hara, best known for her iconic roles in Home Alone and Beetlejuice, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026.
She was 71.
The Canadian actress’s manager confirmed her death in a statement sent to PEOPLE and other media outlets.

Born on March 4, 1954, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, O’Hara began her acting career in 1974 through the Canadian sketch comedy program Second City Television.
She would go on to become one of the most celebrated figures in comedy, with a career spanning more than five decades and over 100 television and film roles.
Among her most memorable film performances were her portrayal of Delia Deetz, the eccentric stepmother of Winona Ryder’s character in Beetlejuice (1988); the frazzled but loving mother of Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin, in Home Alone (1990) and Home Alone: Lost in New York (1992); a competitive dog owner in Christopher Guest’s mockumentary Best in Show (2000); and a seasoned character actress chasing awards glory in For Your Consideration (2006)
On television, O’Hara earned widespread acclaim for her role as Moira Rose in the hit comedy series Schitt’s Creek.
Her performance won her a Primetime Emmy Award in 2020 and a Golden Globe in 2021, cementing her legacy as one of the most versatile and beloved comedy performers of her generation.
