For decades, variety shows have been the go-to program of Filipino viewers during the Sunday noontime block.
ABS-CBN is now celebrating the 20th year of its premiere musical variety show ASAP. The Kapamilya program used to dominate the Sunday noontime show ratings by offering concert performances and dance numbers from its pool of talents.
GMA-7 also tapped its best talents for the now-defunct musical variety shows: from GMA Supershow to SOP to Party Pilipinas to Sunday All-Stars. Earlier this year, the Kapuso network changed Sunday noontime programming by launching a comedy-variety show called Sunday PinaSaya instead of offering a similar musical-variety program.
