Mad Max: Fury Road took home the most number of awards at the 88th annual Academy Awards, held at the Dolby Theatre, in Hollywood, Los Angeles, this Sunday, February 28 (February 29 morning, Manila time).
It won a total of six trophies, but all of it were for technical categories.
But it was the drama film Spotlight which won Best Picture, which was also awarded Best Original Screenplay.
Mexican director Alejandro Gonzales Iñárritu, on the other hand, was named Best Director for his work in The Revenant.
This is the second consecutive Best Director award for Iñárritu, who also won last year for Birdman.
As expected, Leonardo DiCaprio and Brie Larson picked up the Oscars for Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively.
DiCaprio finally won his first Oscar trophy for his performance in The Revenant, while Larson won for her role in Room.
British actor Mark Rylance and Swedish actress Alicia Vikander also won their first Oscars in the supporting categories.
Rylance won for the spy drama Bridge of Spies, while Vikander was honored for her role in the gender-bender drama The Danish Girl.
This year's Oscars host is comedian Chris Rock, who devoted most of his opening monologue talking about racial diversity.
This stemmed from the fact that there was "no black nominees" this year.
Rock said: "Why are we protesting this Oscars? It's the 88th Academy Awards, which means this 'no black nominees' thing happened at least 71 other times.
"You got to figure that it happened in the 50s, in the 60s. One of those years, Sidney [Poitier] didn't put out a movie.
"I'm sure there were no black nominees some of those years, say ??62?? or ??63. Black people did not protest.
"Why? Because we had real things to protest at the time.
"We were too busy being raped and lynched to care about who won best cinematographer.
"When your grandmother's swinging from a tree, it's really hard to care about best documentary foreign short."
This drew flak from some netizens.
