Tom Rodriguez and Lovi Poe promise to be as realistic as they can be when they portray their characters in GMA-7's Someone To Watch Over Me.
In this upcoming primetime series, Tom and Lovi will portray the characters of TJ and Joanna, respectively. They are a couple facing their biggest challenge when the former is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease.
Since they're a married couple, Tom and Lovi will have intimate scenes to show how much they love each other.
“Kailangan we have to show talaga na we're husband and wife.
“We don't want to show people that we look shy on screen.
“Kasi if we look shy on screen, parang hindi makikita kung bakit mo inaalagaan kung pwede namang iwanan and she can go on with her life, ” said Lovi in a recent interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other entertainment writers.
Tom agreed by saying, “Kasi, ito 'yong mga scenes na ipapakita rin later on, kung saan sila nanggaling, especially kapag ipapakita na kung gaano na ka-severe o gaano na kalala 'yong Alzheimer's Disease. Kailangan may point of reference ka pa rin na pinapaalala.”
Lovi said it helped that she and Tom got along easily when they started shooting Someone To Watch Over Me, which will air starting this Monday, September 5, on GMA Telebabad.
“I believe in having a certain connection with your partner, whether it's real or not.
“Kahit di kailangan mag-kiss, ipapakita namin dahil mag-asawa kami.
“Kung paano umarte ang mag-asawa, 'yon ang ipapakita namin,” she said.
Meanwhile, Tom praised Lovi for doing such a good job at playing the role of Joanna.
“Kailangan talaga i-commend si Lovi for being so game and being so pro,” he said.
“Our job is to cultivate chemistry and to show relationship of these characters na dapat ilang years nang kasal o magkasama.
“We have to be able to portray that. Siyempre, it's good when your partner really jumps into the scene lang din.
“You don't have to edit yourself while you're there, na baka hindi pwede ito o hindi pwede 'yon.
“Pero that's where the character is taking me.
“You have to take that path, e. Siyempre, to the bounds of the directions of your director or kung anuman 'yong guidelines.”
Tom said he has also learned a lot from portraying his character in the show.
“Siguro lahat naman po may challenge,” he said.
“Hindi ko siya sinasabi na in way to play safe kasi totoo po, e.
“Parang kahit anong trabaho ang gawin ko, there's always something that I learn, bagay lagi na nacha-challenge ako.
“Akala ko na-experience ko na, pero hindi pa pala. May mga ganung moments pa rin.”
