Dreamgirls prove that there is life beyond 'Pinoy Dream Academy.'

One of them was the first to be expelled from the Pinoy Dream Academy, the rest were hopefuls to be the next singing sensation when they auditioned for the local talent search-cum-reality show but obviously did not make it to the Academy.

But for Gemma Fitzgerald (Filipina-Australian, medical administrative officer from New South Wales), Michelle Murenec (dance teacher from Brisbane, Australia), Its Saludo (lounge singer), Jonah Maluto (pharmacy graduate and a beauty pageant enthusiast), Wendy Valdez (TV commecial model), and Czar Rosales (finalist of the first batch of Star In A Million and part of 26K of Kapamilya: Deal or No Deal) their dreams of performing and singing professionally will continue as the Dreamgirls-an all-girl sing and dance group, and the brainchild of Direk Lauren Dyogi.

The girls describe their music as "a bit R&B a la-Pussycat Dolls."

The group was launched in the Academy Gala Night and was presented to the press last December 6 in ABS-CBN. They performed two of their original songs, "Not Today" (reminiscent of vocal harmony trio Wilson Philips) and "Kabit-kabit" (a ditty about womanizing), which are included in the Pinoy Dream Academy Volumes 3 & 4 compilation albums.

The Dreamgirls will soon make the rounds on different ABS-CBN variety show and will perform together with the PDA scholars. They are currently wrapping up their debut album under Star Records.
