The past and present are brought to the fore in the pilot episode of ABS-CBN's The Greatest Love.

Sylvia Sanchez and Ellen Adarna both depicted the colorful life of Gloria in this new Kapamilya afternoon series that replaced Tubig at Langis.

This family drama aired its pilot episode last Monday, September 5, on Kapamilya Gold block.

"This is a story about second chances. We are all given second chances by life. This is a journey of a mother's second chance at motherhood, as well as her second chance at her great love, even at her age," said the program's creative manager and renowned writer Ricky Lee.

In this series, Sylvia's character starts to lose pieces of her memory after she is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.

Gloria (Sylvia Sanchez) only wishes to have a happy family and for her children to Amanda (Dimples Romana), Andrei (Matt Evans), Paeng (Arron Villaflor), Lizelle (Andi Eigenmann), and grandson Z (Joshua Garcia) to lead good lives.

She just celebrated her 59th birthday but only her daughter Lizelle was present at the celebration.

The episode also shows a flashback to the 1970s when Gloria (played by Elen Adarna) was living in the town of Cervantes with her father (played by Tonton Gutierrez).

Gloria is attracted to a bangkero named Peter (Ejay Falcon) but he dismisses her as "lampa" when she stumbles and he catches her in his arms.

For her part, she described him as "suplado."

However, when it came to a family emergency, it was Peter who stepped up to help her.

Her father had a rheumatism attack so she went to town to buy him medicine. However, a storm cut off access to their town, which is why Peter helped Gloria by bringing her to a cave to protect her from the heavy rains.

Gloria showed signs of being jealous when she confronted Peter whom she thought was in a relationship with Belle (Regine Angeles).

However, Peter told Gloria, "Mas maganda ka pa dun.

"Sabi ko hindi si Belle ang gusto ko."

When Gloria asked him: "Sino ba gusto mo?"

Peter answered directly, "Ikaw ang gusto ko."

The teaser at the end of the pilot episode showed that Peter left to work in Saudi Arabia.
