Viva Artist Miguel Aguila had a successful first solo concert last Friday, April 12, at Teatrino Greenhills in San Juan.
The show opened with Miguel singing the Basil Valdez hit song “Corner of The Sky,” as if to say he is on way of finding his own niche in showbiz. During his opening spiel, Miguel told the audience he wants to entertain them with his repertoire for the night. He then went on to sing a medley of Bruno Mars hits including the popular “Just The Way You Are.”
As a newbie singer, Miguel paid tribute to his OPM idols: Gary Valenciano, Martin Nievera, Ryan Cayabyab, Ogie Alcasid. Bodjie Dasig and Vehnee Saturno (who produced his first solo album).
He opened this segment with Vehnee Saturno’s “Ayoko Na Sana” (an Ariel Rivera hit), then followed this up with Bodjie Dasig’s “Ikaw Lang” (popularized by Chad Borja), then Rannie Raymundo’s “Why Can’t It Be.” He also performed “Ale, Nasa Langit Na Ba Ako?,” then he did a mellow take on the Ariel Rivera hit “Simple Lang,” giving the song a different interpretation.
The young singer then introduced his carrier single titled “Sobra Kitang Mahal,” which is a cut from his debut album.
Miguel’s special guest for the night was singing champion and Party Pilipinas mainstay Rachelle Ann Go. They rendered a duet titled “Time to Say Goodbye.”
Rachelle said she was very impressed. “Sobrang bilib ako,” said the singing champ. The singer-actress reminded concertgoers of her theater stint as Ariel when she performed her solo spot number “Part of this World" from The Little Mermaid.
Miguel and Rachelle reunited onstage for another duet, a song from Adele titled “Someone Like You.”
Miguel also performed “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” which he said he was singing for the first time before a live audience. Spotted among the audience members were his Viva bosses: Vic del Rosario, Vincent Del Rosario, and Veronique Del Rosario-Corpuz.
For his encore, the young singer performed a Josh Groban song.
For a first timer on the concert stage, Miguel Aguila delivered well. He was energetic, lively, has a good singing voice and could dance as well. Given the right break, he could be one of the singing idols in the country.
