Ai-Ai delas Alas nominated in Queens World Film Fest in New York

Area will be screened at the 7th Queens World Film Festival in New York from March 14-19, 2017.

Ai-Ai delas Alas is nominated in the 7th Queens World Film Festival to be held in New York City this March.

The Queens World Film Fest--which runs from March 14 to 19, 2017--features 80 to 100 entries including narrative films, documentaries, and animated movies chosen from all over the world.

The Sunday Pinasaya star is nominated as Best Female Actor in the Narrative Feature category for the indie film Area.

Louie Ignacio, the director of Area, was also nominated as Best Director in the Narrative Feature category.

Ai-Ai shared how thankful she is through an Instagram post with the caption: "Maraming salamat ferdinand lapuz sa napakagandang balitang ito sa isang lunes ng umaga .. ang ma nominate sa isang international filmfestival awards ay napalaking bagay para sa akin ... congratulations sa aming magaling na direktor na si dirctor loui ignacio ... congrats saten direk .. TO GOD BE THE GLORY -- maraming salamat LORD SA LAHAT NG BLESSING NA ITO #queensworldfilmfestival"

The Filipino film Area is one of the movies featured in the Queens World Film Fest featuring entries from Cuba, Spain, South Korea, Bangladesh, China, Italy, Ukraine, Iran, Belgium, Finland, and the United Kingdom, among others.

The actress considers her role in the movie as one of her dream roles. Ai-Ai portrayed an aging prostitute searching for her long-lost son in the film Area.

Last year, the Pinoy film about sex workers based in Pampanga received the Special Jury Prize in the 12th Eurasia International Film Festival.
