GMA-7 emphasized that, since day one, they are “happy” with the ratings of Destined To Be Yours (DTBY), the primetime teleserye of Kapuso love team Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza.
This is the network’s stand following the Philippine Entertainment Portal's (PEP.ph) report about the exchange of tweets between DTBY creative consultant Suzette Doctolero and AlDub fans.
The AlDub fans were complaining about the direction of the show and for bringing a third wheel to the love story of Benjie (Alden) and Sinag (Maine).
Thea Tolentino was added to the cast to play the girlfriend of Alden.
Doctolero reasoned out that a third wheel made the story more interesting and, in effect, improved the show’s ratings.
The creative consultant also said that Destined To Be Yours was a “flop” in its first three weeks.
GMA’S RESPONSE. Through email, PEP sought the response of Ms. Lilybeth Rasonable, GMA Network's senior vice president for TV Entertainment, regarding this issue.
Rasonable said about Doctolero, “Her tweets are her personal opinions and not those of the Network. We will deal with her separately and privately.”
The network executive also stressed, “Destined To Be Yours average rating from pilot episode to present is higher than competition.
"Alden and Maine's chemistry has become more and more evident as the story progresses and this makes the scenes more kilig than ever.
“As producers, how can we not be happy with a winning show?”
However, Rasonable confirmed that the show is indeed going to end this May—as originally planned and for a good reason.
She said, “DTBY's story was really written to end in May. It is NOT being shortened.
"We fixed the schedule kasi that after the soap, they will already start shooting for the movie."
The SVP also thanked the AlDub fans for their continued support and assured that they will make the show worth their while.
“We would like to thank all the viewers for their staunch support. We promise you that we will continue to make DTBY a memorable one for all of you,” she concluded.
