The Young Critics Circle chose Qiyamah as the best film of 2012. Featuring Tetchie Agbayani as a baylan, this film is about the apocalypse taking place in a farm village where Muslims and Christians live.
Gutierrez Mangansakan II’s film is described by the YCC as a "poetic depiction of a rural village haunted by the specter of the apocalypse (Qiyamah in Islam)."
Nora Aunor was chosen best performer for her role as Shaleha, a Badjao midwife, in Thy Womb. The Superstar previously received the YCC's acting award in 1990, 1991, 1993, and 1995.
Qiyamah was produced by the Film Development Council of the Philippines to be part of the first Sineng Pambansa Film Festival in June 2012.
Two other films were nominated in the Best Film category: Arnel Mardoquio’s Ang Paglalakbay ng Mga Bituin sa Gabing Madilim and Adolfo Alix Jr.’s Kalayaan.
Qiyamah also earned the Best Editing plum. It tied with Kalayaan for the category Best Sound and Aural Orchestration.
The Best Screenplay award went to Ang Paglalakbay ng mga Bituin sa Gabing Madilim by writer/director Arnel Mardoquio.
