Short of confirming speculations that she may be in the movie version of Kevin Kwan’s Crazy Rich Asians, Kris Aquino seemed to have given a new clue about her role in the Hollywood movie that she’s currently filming in Singapore.
In her latest Instagram update, Kris Aquino posted a photo of a tiara with a text that says, “Within each of us is a PRINCESS.”
Kris’s own caption read: “Good morning. Wear your crown with grace and dignity.”
As it happened, the Queen of All Media is about to shoot her scenes in a still-unofficially-named Hollywood film today, June 15.
It should be noted that yesterday, June 14, Kris had the chance to take a snapshot with Crazy Rich Asians's lead star Constance Wu.
In the caption of her post, Kris made no mention of Crazy Rich Asians and only wrote that she's a fan of Wu, who is known for the American TV series Fresh Off The Boat.
GUESSING GAME CONTINUES. It is no secret that Filipinos have been speculating that she possibly got a part in Warner Bros.’s movie adaptation of Kwan’s best-selling novel Crazy Rich Asians.
The speculation is not unfounded. Apart from local print-and-digital media putting it out there, citing unnamed sources, Kris’s followers have been picking up clues from her own Instagram posts.
As early as April 6, Kris hinted about receiving a “good news” after all the career roadblocks that she encountered since mid-2016.
Then on April 12, the Queen of All Media quite noticeably got a follow-back on Instagram from Kwan himself.
This was two days after Kris posted on Instagram that Kwan’s trilogy novels were part of her reading fare during her Holy Week vacation in the Maldives.
By April 18, Kris officially met with her Hollywood agent Chris Lee, a partner at East West Artists, the Los Angeles-based talent management company.
Since then, the Queen of All Media took a vow of temporary “silence” about her Hollywood stint as per the “request” of Lee.
In a brief interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other media reporters last May 2, Kris remained firm about not discussing her international project.
“I’m sorry kasi I don’t want to violate the non-disclosure.
“Please, please. Allow me this lang. Let me obey them.”
SULTANA ROLE? The first book of Kwan’s popular trilogy novels, Crazy Rich Asians was published in 2013, followed by China Rich Girlfriend in 2015 and Rich People Problems in May 2017.
After reading the book last April, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) made a list of characters from Crazy Rich Asians that Kris could possibly portray, that is, if she did get a part in the Warner Bros.’ movie adaptation of the same name.
Dated April 19, PEP’s list included the character of the sultana, a Malay princess, who is one of the VIP guests in Colin Khoo and Araminta Lee's wedding, also known as the “the social event of the year.”
PEP.ph article’s description of the sultana or Malay princess partly read: “The sultana catches the attention of a fellow guest, who unabashedly admires her diamond brooch that is 'bigger than a golf ball.'
“In the novel, the author Kevin Kwan leaves no doubt about the sultana's wealth, saying she 'began to wiggle off one of the three humongous diamond rings on her left hand' and handed it as a gift to the awed guest she just met."
It was also noted that with Kris's love of couture and reverential respect for genuine jewelry, she will surely enjoy playing the sultana to the hilt.
But, the guessing game continues, with netizens asking Kris: Is her latest Instagram post hinting at her role in the movie Crazy Rich Asians?
