Donna Miranda and Jose Jay B. Cruz will represent the Philippines in an upcoming dance competition to be held in Yokohama, Japan on January 18-21, 2007. The two dancers will showcase their entries in a one-night show scheduled for January 12 at Sinag Arts Studio in Mandaluyong City.
Donna will be performing "Beneath Polka-dotted Skies" (a solo dance-video project conceptualized during a ten-week residency that took place in Bangkok, Manila, Kyoto and Tokyo) while Jose Jay will perform "Gestures of the Flesh" (a duet originally commissioned by Instituto Cervantes based on the work of Spanish post-modern poet Jaime Gil De Biedma).
The proceeds of this performance will help defray the production costs of the country's entries to the Yokohama Dance Collection R Solo X Duo Competition, which is an important platform supporting the work and career of young emerging contemporary dance makers in Asia. It seeks to discover, support and train promising new choreographers whose work speaks across Asia, showcasing the diverse and plural identity of the region.
Dubbed as Asia's largest contemporary dance market, this gathering offers emerging artists the unique opportunity to bring their work on an international level, with directors from France, Canada, Finland, Spain, Korea, and the United States witnessing this widely acclaimed annual competition.
Venue: Sinag Arts Studio, 664 San Ignacio St., Brgy. Plainview, Mandaluyong City
Performance Date: January 12, 2007 (8 PM)
