While she strives to be a total performer, Maja Salvador said she’s not under any illusion that she can be a power belter like Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez.
The 29-year-old Maja gave this statement when asked if she will sing any of Regine’s hit songs on the Kapamilya actress’s concert Maja On Stage, which will kickoff at IEC Convention in Cebu on February 4.
For the international leg, Maja On Stage will be mounted in Singapore on February 18, Oklahoma on February 23, and Las Vegas on February 25.
She explained, “Gusto ko man po, pero huwag na. Ayoko ma-bash.
“Parang tanggapin mo na lang kung anong kaya ng boses mo.
“Minsan kasi, kapag pinipilit hindi nagiging maganda yung resulta.
“Nandun na lang ako sa kung anong gusto ng tao, kung anong tanggap bilang boses ko, dun ako.”
In between laughs, Maja pointed out that her voice coach can only do so much—like teach her how to reach certain high notes that is still within her voice range.
“May mga kakantahin ako na mga kanta ng mga idolo ko."
She admitted the GMA-7 singer is her idol, but she won't sing Regine's song.
“Pero promise po, kahit gusto kong kantahin yung mga kanta ni Ms. Regine, ayoko pong mapahiya.
“Ayokong bastusin ang kanta niya. Ibigay na po natin sa mga divas talaga.”
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) caught up with Maja at her solo presscon for Maja On Stage held at Dong Juan Restaurant in Quezon City last Saturday, January 13.
"WILD" PRODUCTION NUMBERS. Her Wildflower leading men Joseph Marco and Vin Abrenica are among the special guests for Maja On Stage.
If there’s anything “wild” about her concert series, Maja pointed out that it’s going to be the sexy production numbers of Joseph and Vin.
“Hindi mo na kailangang sabihin na maghanda yung abs nila, dahil handang-handa, e!
“Kung bihira niyo yun makita sa Wildflower, dito sa concert hindi namin ipagdadamot yun.”
Maja said she’s grateful that both Joseph and Vin immediately agreed to her requests for her concert.
“Siyempre kailangan din kung ano yung image nila, kung anong gusto ng tao sa kanila, yun ang kailangan ibigay.
“But this time may konting twist. Hindi lang basta pagpapakita ng abs, may ibang talent din yung dalawa.
“Kung hindi niyo pa naririnig, si Vin maganda ang boses niya. And siyempre si Joseph may group na Harana.”
With Wildflower down to its last few weeks, Maja is already gearing up for her Maja On Stage at KIA Theater in Cubao, Quezon City on March 23.
COLLAB WITH THAI SINGER. Soon, Maja will also launch her collaboration with Thai singer, songwriter, and pianist Saksit Vejsupaporn.
According to Maja, she flew to Bangkok, Thailand last September for her and Saksit to record an English love song.
"Iba yung talent niya. Three years old pa lang 'ata siya nagpi-play na siya ng piano. So gift talaga yun, di ba."
Maja recalled how Saksit learned to play Gary Valenciano's "Sana Maulit Muli" and Inigo Pascual's "Dahil Sa 'Yo" on the piano.
"Sa music video shoot nga namin, paparinig mo lang yung kanta sa kanya papatugtugin na niya. Gano'n siya ka-talented."
