Nora Aunor, Eugene Domingo, Eddie Garcia, and others honored at 6th Ani ng Dangal Awards

Artists who brought honor to the Philippines in the international scene were recognized in an awarding ceremony organized by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

Called Ani ng Dangal or "Harvest of Honors," this awarding ceremony took place last Sunday, February 2, as part of the grand celebration of the National Arts Month held every February.

Filipino artists and groups who have reaped top honors in international events received plaques and medals during the awarding held at the Newport Performing Arts Theater, Resorts World Manila in Pasay City.

The artists honored came from the following art disciplines:

-Architecture and Allied Arts
-Cinema
-Dance
-Dramatic Arts
-Literary Arts
-Music
-Visual Arts
-including Multi-Disciplinary Arts


The program, which was hosted by Issa Litton, featured performances from award-winning groups such as the De La Salle University Chorale and Hail Mary the Queen Children’s Choir (Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral in Cubao).

Sarah Geronimo, who was honored in last year's Ani ng Dangal Awards, also appeared in two intermission numbers that night. The Popstar Princess rapped for the "Sining ng Pinoy" production number with Gloc 9 and Denise Barbacena. They were also joined by the world-renowned hip-hop dance group Philippine All Stars.

Towards the end of the program, Sarah performed a rock version of "Anak" as she was accompanied by the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Gerard Salonga.

Ely Buendia also performed that night with his band Pupil. They were one of the awardees in the Multi-Disciplinary Arts category of the Ani ng Dangal Awards.

Jed Madela was another awardee who also performed for the crowd at the Newport Performing Arts Theater.



REPRESENTATIVE. In behalf of the awardees, Nora Aunor gave a speech to thank the organizers.

"Napakalaking bagay po ang makatanggap ng mga tropeo mula sa ibang bansa pero wala nang hihigit at tatamis pa sa karangalan na galing sa mga kababayan."

As soon as she said this, spontaneous applause greeted her, making Nora pause for a bit before continuing with her speech.

"Muli akong nagpapasalamat sa NCCA at Ani ng Dangal dahil sa kanilang walang sawang pagkilala at pagsuporta sa mga Pilipinong alagad ng sining gaya ko.

"Ang ganitong mga parangal ang nagpapaalala sa amin na gaano man karami ang mga pagsubok na aming kinakaharap, hindi kami dapat kailanman sumuko," vowed the veteran actress.

The Superstar also acknowledged her fans who have remained loyal to her throughout these years.

"Kung may dapat bigyan ng karangalan, sila po iyon.

"Nasabi ko na po ito noon pero uulit-ulitin ko. Walang Nora Aunor kung wala po sila.

"Gusto ko rin batiin ang mga kapwa ko alagad ng sining na pinarangalan ngayong gabi.

"Ang inyong katapatan at kahusayan sa kulturang Pilipino ay inspirasyon ko.

"Sama-sama po natin at patuloy na ipakita sa mundo ang dangal at husay ng mga Pilipino.

"Maraming salamat at magandang gabi."



AWARDEES. In the Multi-Disciplinary Arts, two TV shows were recognized: ABS-CBN's Matanglawin: Pasig River Earth Day and GMA News TV's Reel Time.

Meanwhile, the Cinema category featured mostly showbiz personalities who won international awards and accolades during the past year.
