Dingdong Dantes is set to top-bill GMA-7's local adaptation of the Korean drama, Descendants of the Sun.
This was announced earlier today, April 22, during the press conference of Dingdong's contract renewal with GMA-7.
An audio-visual presentation was played during the press conference, announcing that Dingdong will play the lead character of Descendants of the Sun, a hit Korean drama aired in 2016.

Dingdong will play the character of Captain Lucas (Captain Yoo Si-jin in Korea) a.k.a. Big Boss. The role was first played by Song Joong-Ki.
Dingdong's leading lady in the Descendants of the Sun remake has yet to be announced.
The Descendants of the Sun Korean drama was first aired in GMA-7 in 2016.
Months after its run, in late 2016, the Kapuso network announced that it bought the rights to do a local adaptation of the Korean drama.
It was even rumored that Alden Richards will top-bill the Philippine remake.
In January 1, 2019, almost two years after the first announcement, the Kapuso network included the Descendants of the Sun remake in its roster of upcoming TV programs.
In January 7, 2019, PEP Troika said in its report that Dingdong was one of the actors considered to do the remake.
GMA-7 has yet to announce the other cast members as well as the target airing date for the Descendants of the Sun remake.
