Eddie Garcia's family agrees to "Do Not Resuscitate (DNR)" status

The family of Eddie Garcia agrees to putting him on "Do Not Resuscitate" status, but not to "withdrawal of life support."

Nasa "Do Not Resuscitate" o DNR status ang veteran actor na si Eddie Garcia, 90, ilang araw matapos nitong madisgrasya noong June 8, sa Tondo, Manila.

Ayon sa mga health websites, ang DNR ay isang "medical order" ng doctor na kung sakaling tumigil sa paghinga ang pasyente ay hindi na magpe-perform ng cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Pinayagan na ito ng pamilya ng veteran actor.

Pero taliwas sa haka-hakang kumakalat sa showbiz, hindi raw nagbigay ng consent ang pamilya na tanggalin ang life support.

Ayon sa medical bulletin na inilabas ni Dr. Tony Rebosa nitong gabi ng Biyernes, June 14, "Pls be informed that the family of Mr. Eddie Garcia has not authorized nor has it consented to withdrawal of life support.

"They have however agreed to place him on DNR status. Thank you."

Matatandaang naaksidente si Eddie habang nasa taping ng bagong GMA serye na Rosang Agimat.

Base sa kumalat na video, napatid ito sa isang cable wire sa set habang may ginagawang eksena na nagresulta sa cervical fracture sa kanyang leeg.

Umaasa pa rin ang lahat na malalampasan ng award-winning actor-director ang trahedyang ito sa kanyang kalusugan.

Nanatili pa ring comatose at nasa kritical na kundisyon si Eddie sa Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ng Makati Medical Center as of press time.
