Veteran showbiz journalist Isah Red passes away due to cardiac arrest

Feisty, irreverent entertainment journalist Isah Red was well-loved by his peers and media colleagues. Many a showbiz gathering was made more memorable by his sheer presence and amusing antics.

Nagluluksa ang mundo ng local showbiz media dahil sa biglaang pagpanaw ng batikang entertainment journalist at editor na si Isah Red.

Natagpuang wala ng buhay ang matapang ngunit lovable na showbiz scribe sa kanyang bahay kaninang Sabado ng umaga, September 21.

Siya ay sumakabilang-buhay sa edad na 67.

Ang mga kasamahang entertainment editors ni Isah sa grupong Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd) ang opisyal na nag-anunsiyo ng pagyao ng isa sa pinaka-respetadong entertainment journalists sa bansa.

Nakasaad sa pahayag ng SPEEd, “It is with pain and sadness that we, The Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd) confirm the passing of our President Emeritus, co-founder, dearest friend and family member, the highly regarded, respected and much loved Entertainment editor and journalist Isah V. Red.

“We take solace that while he felt unwell these past few days, he died peacefully in his home this morning, without struggle or difficulty.

“We are in close communication with members of his family and will announce the details of his wake as soon as available.

“We ask for your prayers for the repose of the soul of our beloved Isah who we will always remember for his wit, candor, joy and love of life.

WHO IS ISAH RED?

Sino nga ba si Isah at bakit siya kinakatakutan sa mundo ng showbiz?

Si Isah ay kilala dahil sa kanyang prangka at walang takot na pagtatanong sa mga artista sa mga press conference at media gatherings.

Makailang beses na siyang may nakatunggaling mga artista dahil sa kanyang katapangan.

Pero sa mga malalapit niyang kaibigan sa loob at labas ng showbiz, si Isah ay kilala sa kanyang pagiging malambing at mapagbiro.

Paano nga ba nagsimula sa showbiz si Isagani “Isah” Red?

Nag-aral at nagtapos si Isah ng elementarya sa Libon Community School with honors sa Albay noong 1964.

Nagtapos siya ng high school noong taong 1969 sa Colegio de Sta. Lucia de Marillac sa Sorsogon.

Siya ay nag-aral ng Broadcast Communication mula 1969 hanggang 1971 sa University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City.

Kasunod nito, kumuha din siya ng Communication Research mula 1976 hanggang 1981 sa parehong kolehiyo.

Naging feature writer at assistant editor siya ng The Manila Chronicle (lifestyle and entertainment sections) at naging contributing writer ng The Manila Times, People’s Journal, Business Day, at marami pang iba.

Naging manunulat din siya sa iba’t ibang TV programs noon kabilang na ang Eat Bulaga! (1984-1985), sa Banahaw Broadcasting Corporation (1976-1986), RPN-9, at GMA Network.

Nagtrabaho din siya bilang public relations writer at account executive ng McCann Erickson mula 1981 hanggang 1984.

Bago pa nito, nagtrabaho din siya sa gobyerno, kabilang na rito ang sa ABC Resettlement Project, isang inter-agency development program na sumasakop sa mga lugar ng Agusan, Bukidnon, at Capiz.

Naging researcher din siya sa Department of Public Information Bureau of Standard for Mass Media noong panahon ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.

Siya ay nag-retiro bilang entertainment at lifestyle sections editor ng Manila Standard noong 2018.

Bago siya pumanaw, naging editor-in-chief din si Isah ng BGShowbizPlus magazine, entertainment columnnist ng Daily Tribune at Bomba tabloid, at host ng online talk show na "Tok Patok" ng Daily Tribune.
