Vice Ganda apologized for announcing the wrong winner in "Tawag ng Tanghalan" (TNT) on It's Showtime this Friday, September 27, 2019.
On day 5 of TNT Ang Huling Tapatan, four more contestants remained, namely Rafaello Cañedo, Jonas Oñate, Shaina Allaga, and Julius Cawaling.
The four contestants were grouped into two: Rafaello and Jonas for the first group, while Shaina and Julius formed the second group.
It was then explained that a winner would be picked from each group to complete the Top 6 in the grand finals of TNT this Saturday, September 28.
Vice was handed the results. He announced that Rafaello was the winner in the first group, making Jonas the seventh placer.
But it didn’t take long for Vice to say that he had to make clarifications.
“I’m sorry, wait, we have to clear something…” Vice said.
It turned out that he mistakenly switched the results.
“So ang nakalagay sa binasa ko, uulitin ko, kasi ako ay sumusunod lang...
“Seventh placer ay si Rafaello Cañedo ng Mindanao, nangangahulugang si Jonas ang pasok sa Top 6.”
The TV host then proceeded to announce the winner in the second group.
Shaina completed the Top 6, and Julius is the eighth placer.
This late afternoon, Vice tweeted what happened that led to his error.
“I was just reading the prompter. Not my mistake. Sorry still,” read his first tweet.
His second tweet bore the explanation, “The prompter says announce 7th and 8th placer pero ang inabot sakin na envelope has the names of the contestants na pasok sa top 6. So ayun na steve harvey ako.”
It can be recalled that Steve Harvey, an American host, made the same blooper when he mistakenly announced Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as Miss Universe 2015. He rectified the error a few moments later, and clarified that it was Pia Wurtzbach, who was the winner of the international pageant.
