The 2014 Cinemalaya entry Mariquina will be screened at Teatrino Greenhills this Saturday, October 25.

The indie film Mariquina tells the story of First Lady namesake Imelda Guevarra (played by Mylene Dizon). She needs to find the perfect shoes for her late father Romeo (played by Ricky Davao), a respected shoemaker in Marikina who suddenly dies under mysterious circumstances. The search evokes bittersweet nostalgia of Imelda’s childhood and her difficult relationship with her father.

Directed by Milo Sogueco, this 2014 Cinemalaya entry will be screened anew this Saturday, October 25, 5:00 pm at Teatrino, Greenhills, San Juan.

The stars of Mariquina will have a question-and-answer/meet-and-greet at the screening to be held tomorrow.

Mariquina recently competed in the 2014 Busan International Film Festival New Currents section, and it won for Barbie Forteza a Best Supporting Actress award at the 10th Cinemalaya Film Festival. The Hollywood Reporter hailed the film as “an elegant and moving portrait of loss, regret and forgiveness.”

Stars Bing Pimentel, Ricky Davao, and Barbie Forteza, as well as director Milo Sogueco will answer questions from the audience in the open forum after the Teatrino screening.

Tickets at P200 each may be purchased directly at Greenhills Promenade or Theater Mall. For inquiries, call Tel. No. 721-2949 or message Teatrino Film Series on Facebook.
