For the first time, Judy Ann Santos was asked if she was ever offered the lead role in ABS-CBN’s adaptation of the BBC psychological drama series Doctor Foster.
This happened during her Instagram interview with writer G3 San Diego on Monday, May 24, 2021.
However, Judy Ann declined to answer the question out of respect for Jodi Sta. Maria, who was announced to portray the lead role.
Judy Ann said, “Alam mo, I don’t know if I have to answer that question kasi I don’t want to be unfair kay Jodi.
“At the same time, gusto ko rin maghintay sa management if they’re gonna answer that.
“Kasi, parang at least ngayon, happy ako that it was Jodi who’s doing Doctor Foster.”
Judy Ann added that if ever she was offered the role, she might decline it because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Ako naman, if ever, hindi ko rin naman talaga siya magagawa kasi takot ako lumabas.
“It’s a very, very good material, it’s a good project, it’s a good material.”
On May 7, 2021, ABS-CBN announced that Jodi Sta. Maria was chosen to portray the much-coveted lead role in the upcoming Pinoy version of Doctor Foster, titled The Broken Marriage Vow.
Prior to the announcement, there were reports stating that Judy Ann was first offered the role.
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) learned from an insider that Judy Ann was offered the role and was even a choice of the British producers from BBC, the owner of Doctor Foster's rights.
However, the insider said that Judy Ann had to decline the offer for safety reasons because of the pandemic.
Doctor Foster’s Korean version, The World of the Married, became popular in the Philippines in 2020.
It tells the story of a wife who discovers that her husband is having an affair with a younger woman. The series also shows how the whole family and the people around them, especially the couple’s son, are affected by the affair.
In her interview, Judy Ann admitted that she has not watched the Korean version yet.
For the Pinoy version, Zanjoe Marudo will play Jodi’s husband while Sue Ramirez will portray the mistress.
Zaijian Jaranilla is also part of the cast as Jodi and Zanjoe’s son who will be affected by his parents’ marital ordeal.
The Broken Marriage Vow is directed by Connie Macatuno and produced by ABS-CBN Entertainment and Dreamscape Entertainment.
ABS-CBN has yet to release an airing date for The Broken Marriage Vow.
