GMA-7 viewers are happy to see Mano Po Legacy being aired in a 16:9 ratio, a rare moment in Kapuso-produced shows.
16:9 is a widescreen aspect ratio on television that has become the international standard format of digital television on high definition, and even in standard definition.
The program appears inside a letterbox to show its widescreen aspect.
For viewers, 16:9 is more visually appealing and has a wider scope in terms of what can be seen on screen.
It also does not appear to be stretched or cropped, unlike those that still use the 4:3 aspect or the full-screen ratio.
Other GMA-7 programs, especially its teleseryes, still use the 4:3 aspect ratio, which is known as the ratio used in the early days of standard television.
Based on netizens’ comments, they enjoyed the crisp cinematography of Mano Po Legacy, a co-production of GMA-7 and Regal Entertainment Inc., and watching it on widescreen.
One netizen said (published as is), “Atlast 16:9 sa primetime show ng @gmanetwork makikita talaga na quality at walang cropping na naganap. Sarap lang panoorin at maganda rin yung story #ManoPoLegacyBegins”
Easy Ferrer, the creative manager of the series, replied, “Nilaban po namin ang 16:9 haha.”
With their experience watching Mano Po Legacy, Kapuso viewers hoped it would be the start of more GMA-7 dramas showing in wide screen.
Here are some of their tweets:
Mano Po Legacy’s first installment, “The Family Fortune,” is top-billed by Barbie Forteza, Sunshine Cruz, Maricel Laxa, Rob Gomez, Nikki Co, Dustin Yu, and David Licauco.
