Despite establishing herself as a reliable singer over the past ten years, Jona is not spared from having bloopers during live performances.
She recounts some of these moments during her PEP Spotlight guest appearance on February 1, 2022.
Jona has been a "suki" in performing theme songs for teleseryes in ABS-CBN, and even during her Kapuso days when she was still known as Jonalyn Viray.
One of her bloopers happened in 2018, when she had to sing the theme song of the prime-time series Ngayon at Kailanman in a mall show.
The show’s theme song was a revival of Basil Valdez’s “Ngayon at Kailanman,” and had higher notes than the other versions.
Jona recalls, “Noong nag-mall show ako to promote Ngayon at Kailanman ni Julia Barretto at Joshua Garcia, ako iyong kumanta ng theme song.
“’Tapos pagdating ko ng climax ng song, iyong pataas na part na, pumiyok talaga ako doon sa mall show, rinig na rinig iyong ‘Bukaaaaas!’
“Hindi ko alam kung mayroong video niyan sa YouTube, bahala na! Pero yeah, pumiyok ako nang live ‘tapos deadma, deadma na lang.”
Jona was able to move past the blooper to finish the song, but the moment sank in when the performance was over.
She continues, “Pagbalik ko ng backstage, sobrang embarrassed na embarrassed ako!
“Parang gusto kong magpakain sa lupa!”
BLOOPER DURING HER COMEBACK PERFORMANCE
Jona also remembered a blooper that happened during ABS-CBN’s benefit concert for the victims of Typhoon Odette in December 2021.
It was the first time that she performed live after taking a long break in 2021.
She was tasked to sing the first verse of “Man In The Mirror” for the opening number.
Jona relates, “Nag-practice naman ako and nakapasok naman ako doon sa first song ko.
“Pagdating ng take nang live, ayun, hindi ako nakapasok sa first verse ng ‘Man In The Mirror!’
“Kasi iyong umpisa ng music, isang ‘ting’ lang. E, na-miss ko kasi siyempre, parang kind of kinakabahan din ako, dahil after so many months of not singing live on TV, parang iyon ulit iyong a-appear ako.
“’Tapos ayun, di ko napasukan iyong buong verse. Di ko naman puwedeng i-cut kasi naka-live naman kami!”
After a long break, Jona has now officially returned to singing full-time and appearing on ASAP Natin ‘To.
Her comeback single is “Someone To Love,” which is a composition of Filipino-American music producer Troy Laureta.
It is part of Troy’s latest album with Star Music, Giliw: A Troy Laureta Collective Vol. 2.
