Khimo Gumatay is hailed as the winner of Idol Philippines Season 2.
He bested the other two finalists, Ryssi Avila and Kice So, during the final showdown held this Sunday, September 18, 2022.
Khimo received a total of 89% combined public votes from Up Live and judges' score for his performances during the evening.
Ryssi and Kice, on the other hand, scored 49.38% and 45.77%, respectively.
Khimo will be taking home a business franchise package worth PHP3 million, a recording contract under ABS-CBN Music, PHP1 million cash, and a brand new house and lot from Camella Homes worth PHP2.5 million.
KHIMO'S PERFORMANCES
During the final showdown, the Top 3 finalists performed two songs each: one journey song and one original track.
For his journey song, Khimo performed Jem Macatuno's "Bagong Simula."
Judges Gary Valenciano, Moira dela Torre, Regine Velasquez, and Chito Miranda were very impressed with his performances.
After his performance of the song, Gary told Khimo, "Pinatunayan mo talaga, this whole journey is a new beginning for you.
"And tonight, ang ganda ng pag-communicate mo sa mga tao na hindi ka tumayo diyan para mapanood ka ng tao kundi para mapakinggan ka ng bawat isa, na marinig ka ng bawat isa dun sa mensahe ng kanta mo.
"So thank you so much for taking us and allowing us to be a part itong bagong simula ng buhay mo. God bless you, idol."
Moira got emotional after watching Khimo on stage.
She said, "Khimo, we've seen you as a showstopper. We have seen you as the amazing performer that you are. But I think tonight, I saw you as an excellent storyteller.
"And hindi alam ito ng karamihan kasi ang nakikita lang naman nila five minutes of your performance every week.
"Pero simula pa lang nung una hanggang sa ngayon, kung gaano ka ka-excellent on stage, ganun din ka-excellent yung character mo off stage.
"And yun ang pinaka na-appreciate ko sa 'yo kasi sobrang naggo-glow yun, nakikita namin yun on stage."
She continued, "And from beginning to end, I have had no doubts about how amazing you are and how called you are to do this.
"I love you, Khimo! Congratulations!"
After winning the competition, Khimo expressed his gratitude to all staff and crew of Idol Philippines and his supporters.
He said, "Hindi ko po alam kung anong sasabihin ko ngayon pero maraming, maraming, maraming salamat po sa inyo lahat.
"Gusto ko lang po ulit magpasalamat, simula po sa mga staff ng Idol Philippines na bumubuo po nitong show na ito. Sobrang nagpapasalamat ako sa inyo, from utility up to the executives.
"Maraming salamat po sa inyo. Taos-puso ko pong pinapasalamatan po yung bawat isa sa inyo. Grabe...
"Alam kong malaking responsibilidad ito pero gagawin ko. Ito na ang bagong simula, and ulit... pagbubutihan ko pa ulit."
