Pagpupugay ni Mikhail sa nakababatang kapatid, sa pamamagitan ng Facebook post: “One of the best moments of the night was when my brother Nikolas won best editor.

"I ran up to hug him as soon as it was announced but wasn't able to take a picture because I had to prepare to present another award backstage!

“Nikos and I have been collaborating and making films since we were little kids, running around with our minidv camcorder editing on windows moviemaker.

“Making movies and telling stories with my brother has always been a dream. He later went on to edit my genre feature films (not an easy task to offline cut with the vast number of shots, moving components, and missing vfx elements in some of our films) and because of our familiarity with each other's cinematic language and influences, it was always a fun and smooth collaborative process.

“I've always wished the industry would recognize his talent as an editor. Now he finally gets his first award and I am so damn proud. Here's to more movies!”

MIKHAIL AS A FILMMAKER

“Ever since bata ako, 12 years old, gumagawa ako ng films. Mga simpleng…any excuse to make a movie.

“If nae-enjoy nyo yung movies namin, that’s because I think infectious yung passion."

Parang on your way up, yung mga PA [personal assistant] na madadaanan mo, one day, producer mo na.

"So, parang ang mas important sa talent, I always tell students, is passion dahil yun ang energy source mo.

“Puwede kang mag-run out after one big hit, wala ka na. Pero I feel kung passionate ka and naggi-geek out sa proseso, hindi ka titigil.

“Parang kahit anong budget o kahit anong camera ang ibigay sa yo, gagawa ka kasi nga napaka-honest ng desire mo to make films.

"Kung ginagawa mo siya as a 12-year-old na wala naman kapalit, gagawin mo siya kahit ano yung condition.”
