Mabilis na tinanggap ni Christopher de Leon ang alok sa kanya na maging bahagi ng main cast ng bagong Kapamilya action-drama series na FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.
Ang bida, director, at producer ng Batang Quiapo na si Coco Martin ang personal na tumawag at nagkuwento ng role kay Christopher para kumbinsihin siya na tanggapin ang serye.
Ongoing ang pag-ere ng serye sa Kapamilya Channel, A2Z, TV5, iWantTFC, at Kapamilya Online Live simula noong Pebrero 13.
Bahagi ng cast sina Lovi Poe, Charo Santos, Cherry Pie Picache, Ronnie Lazaro, Tommy Abuel, Lito Lapid, at Lou Veloso.
Isa sa dahilan ni Christopher kaya niya ito tinanggap ay dahil kay Charo na una niyang nakatrabaho noong late '70s.
Kuwento ni Christopher, “It was like a couple of months ago, Coco called. Tinawagan niya ako and he offered me this one, Batang Quiapo.
“Of course, wow! Sabi ko, this will be an honor to work with, ang magiging kasama of course, si Madam Charo and the rest. Sinabi niya yung casting and all that."
Habang isinusulat ang artikulong ito, hindi pa nakaka-eksena ni Christopher si Charo sa taping ng Batang Quiapo.
“But I’m sure magkakaroon kami ng eksena ni Charo. And we used to be... ka-love team ko yan, e,” ngiti ni Christopher.
First movie na naging ka-love team ni Christopher si Charo ay sa movie ni Ishmael Bernal na Tisoy noong 1978.
Sumunod na taon ay nagkapareha rin sila sa dalawang pelikula—sa Alamat ni Julian Makabayan ni Direk Celso Ad. Castillo at Kakaba-Kaba Ka Ba? ni Mike de Leon.
Pahayag ni Christopher, “Ako, super thrilled to work with her again as an actor. Kasi dati she was the boss of ABS-CBN, and now I can just talk to her as a good friend. Dati, with respect as a boss.
“Excited ako kasi dati the big boss here in ABS-CBN is now, artista ulit siya. So, I’m excited to do scenes with her,” dagdag pa niya.
Bukod kay Charo, excited din siya na maka-eksena sa Batang Quiapo si Senator Lito Lapid.
“I’m also excited to work with, to do scenes with Senator Lito Lapid,” banggit niya.
“Hindi ko pa siya nakaka-eksena. At never ko siyang naka-work.”
Nakapanayam ng PEP.ph si Christopher sa grand mediacon ng FPJ’s Batang Quiapo sa Studio 10 ng ABS-CBN.
Sigurado si Christopher na todong kuwentuhan ng kanilang past experiences ang gagawin nila ni Charo once magkasama sila sa set ng Batang Quiapo.
“Right,” masayang sabi ni Christopher.
“Yeah, ganoon na nga ang ano… saka yung last show namin nung Valentine, for Valentine show, nanood siya. Siya ang producer. Isa sa mga producers.”
Ang tinutukoy ni Christopher ay ang pre-Valentine concert niya with Edgar Mortiz and Tirso Cruz III na Some Kind of Valentine na ginanap sa Newport Performing Arts Theater, Resorts World Manila last February 3 and 4.
Si Charo at ang kapatid niyang si Malou Santos ang producers ng show at co-producer si Flor Santos.
Isa sa mga celebrities na nanood ng concert nina Christopher, Edgar at Tirso ay ang Star for All Seasons na si Vilma Santos.
ON WORKING WITH COCO MARTIN
Hindi raw nagdalawang-isip si Christopher na tanggapin ang Batang Quiapo nang ialok ito sa kanya ni Coco.
“More often, ang priority ko is the project itself, my role. What is the character?
"Yun ang ano ko, e. Mabilis yan na-explain agad sa akin kung ano yung gusto niya nung tumawag siya.
“So, he knows really what he wanted. Like, he wants me to play this role and nakuha ko kaagad."
Naalala ni Christopher na kinuha na rin siya noon ni Coco na mag-guest sa defunct Kapamilya prime-time series na FPJ's Ang Probinsyano.
"And this is going to be really something big, 'no? It’s going to be something big, just like Ang Probinsyano. Everybody wanted to be part of it.
"But I was just a guest in Probinsyano that one time. I was the father of Anne Curtis. I played a gun runner then.
“But nung tinawag niya ito sa akin that I’m going to be one of the main cast of Batang Quiapo, I said yes right away.”
Binigyang-diin ni Christopher na laging priority niya sa pagtanggap ng offer ay ang kuwento at ang karakter na gagampanan niya.
“And then now, he tells me that I will be like the big gangster, the big boss,” pagri-reveal niya ng kanyang role sa Batang Quiapo.
“Well, so far, nag-shoot na ako ng mga scenes namin like a couple of days ago.
“Ako yung head ng bilangguan. Ako yung nagpapalakad ng mga illegal na activities inside the jail.
“And then, ayoko na muna i-istorya but, I become a big gangster of a crime syndicate. So, I play the big boss. So, I said yes right away.”
Sinabi rin ni Christopher naka ilang araw na taping na siya sa Batang Quiapo.
"Yes, naka-two days na ako ng taping,” lahad niya.
“It’s kinda taxing. It’s kinda hard, but masarap. Nakakapagod pero worth it.”
CHRISTOPHER TO DO MOVIE WITH VILMA SANTOS
And speaking of Vilma, may balitang si Christopher ang kinukuhang kapareha ng aktres sa pagbabalik-pelikula niya ngayong taon.
“Well, under negotiation na. But so far, binubuo yung material and we have to read the material first—kung talagang babagay sa amin at our age. Siyempre kailangan i-adjust na yung story for our age,” pagkumpirma ni Christopher.
“You know, hindi na yung ano, parang mga teenager or yung mga romantic. It’s an adult film. An adult film and a little romantic. But it’s all about love.”

Balita ring sa Kyoto, Japan kukunan ang kabuuan ng pelikula nila ni Vilma. Kaya malamang na di makakapag-taping si Christopher ng ilang buwan sa Batang Quiapo.
“Alam na nila.
“But the shoot in Kyoto, kung tuloy ‘to, we haven’t signed anything yet.
“We have to… I have to work on the material first.
“I have to scrutinize para bumagay naman sa amin. Hindi yung parang love story ng elder people, you know. And then, it has to also cater sa mga young ones,” paliwanag pa niya.
