Vanessa Hudgens has an exciting opportunity to learn more about her Filipino heritage through an upcoming Philippine-centric documentary.
She's close to achieving her dream of making a film and writing a book about her mom Gina Guangco, who moved to the U.S. at age 25.
In 2018, in an interview with Glamour, Vanessa said, “I feel like that’s such a relatable story to so many women all over the world. The more that we can share, the more we can lift each other up."

The untitled project is set to be shot this year, possibly even before the month ends.
Palawan and Manila were named by the production team as the targeted film sites.

MAIN THEME
A lot of the inspiration behind undertaking the project was drawn from Vanessa's interest to learn more about her mother's homeland.
While she has been vocal about being proud of her ancestry, and she supports various Filipino charities and organizations, Vanessa has yet to delve deeper into the rich culture of the Philippines.
The film hopefully provides a unique perspective on Filipino culture and history, from the point of view of an American-born, half-Filipino who is paying homage to her roots.

The docu is going to be produced by local boutique film company TEN17P, spearheaded by Paul Soriano, who is also directing the film.
Paul is the creative behind the 2019 Tokyo International Film Festival Main Competition entry Mañanita and the Manny Pacquiao biopic, Kid Kulafu.
Vanessa kickstarted her career in the world of musical theatre at eight years old, but found global fame in Disney Channel’s sensation High School Musical.
Since then, Vanessa has become an established star, with credits including Spring Breakers, Gimme Shelter, Bad Boys for Life, and the Oscar-nominated Tick, Tick…Boom!.
