Is the Pinoy Big Brother closing its doors soon?
This was the question in the minds of some netizens who came across the post of ABS-CBN executive Laurenti Dyogi on Instagram.
Direk Lauren posted a video clip taken on Saturday, May 13, 2023, showing the interior of the house being torn down.
The network executive revealed that half of the property is being dismantled after its lease expired, adding that "it is impractical to renew it."
He wrote, "We still have the main PBB house and control room which hopefully we still get to use for the next PBB edition.
"This original house was built in 2004 and is 18 years old. It has become iconic and a landmark in the area."
SO MANY GOOD MEMORIES
Direk Lauren couldn't help but feel nostalgic while touring the portion of the property currently being demolished.
He looked back to 2006, recalling how the property came about because of Pinoy Dream Academy.
"After 2 seasons of PDA, it became our House B which had our offices, brainstorm space, pantry, hosts’ dressing rooms, mini studio with control room and living quarters specially during the last two “lock-in seasons," Direk Lauren reminisced.
"This part of the house has lots of good memories and even scary experiences."
Direk Lauren went on to thank all the people who have become part of the property's rich history, propelling it to the annals of Pinoy pop culture.
"It’s an end of an era but hopefully we move on and find a better home in the future," Direk Lauren said in closing.
WHERE STARS ARE BORN
Pinoy Big Brother made its debut in 2005 on ABS-CBN.
The show is the local version of the Dutch reality competition program titled Big Brother.
Pinoy Big Brother, or PBB, was a runaway success and viewers were drawn to its concept of gathering individuals and making them stay inside a house for weeks.
As it turned out, PBB also became the springboard for many young celebrities who eventually became big names in the local showbiz industry..
Just some of the so-called PBB graduates include Kim Chiu, Zanjoe Marudo, Beauty Gonzalez, James Reid, and Alexa Ilacad, among many others.
