Siya ay 64.
Isang buwang naratay sa Philippine Heart Center si Mario matapos siyang atakehin sa puso, hanggang sa tuluyan na siyang bawian ng buhay.

Matapos kumalat ang balita tungkol sa kanyang pagpanaw, naghayag ng kanilang pagdadalamhati at pagbibigay-pugay ang mga kasamahan ni Mario sa pagku-cover ng showbiz events sa loob ng halos apat na dekada.

Labis daw siyang nalungkot sa pagpanaw ng hindi lamang dating katrabaho kundi isang kaibigan na din.

"He was the entertainment journalist that others wanted to emulate (I remember interviewing a young applicant who said “I want to be the next Mario Dumaual”).
"If we needed someone to get access to a hard-to-reach actor or movie star, we’d have Mario do the work.
"Whenever we wanted an exclusive story or a needed a veteran to handle a sensitive topic, Mario was the man.
"He wrote and covered every aspect, knew every nuance of Philippine show business, including its intersection with politics.
"He embraced its glamour and glitter, but wasn’t blind to its mess and imperfections.
"Mario was comfortable covering film and TV stars one day, and talking to theatre actors, musicians and people in the arts the next. He knew everyone.
"Through it all, he stayed true to his core. Soft-spoken and kind-hearted always, Mario kept a low profile, working behind the scenes, mentoring young reporters, helping colleagues, submitting stories for airing in the show that he loved.
"I’ve known him since the pioneering days of TV Patrol; he was part of the original Star News team led by Angelique Lazo.
"Many of his friends and fellow reporters had moved on or pursued other things but Mario stayed with us in ABS-CBN. Thank you for everything…I will miss you terribly, Mario. You are irreplaceable!"

Si Anthony Taberna ay dating kasamahan ni Mario sa ABS-CBN News. Kahit nasa DZRH na siya ngayon, hindi pa rin daw nagbabago si Mario tuwing nagkikita sila.
