Bata pa lang daw, nakahiligan na ni DJ Jimmy Nocon ang musika. Pero 19 years old na siya nang tila ma-introduce siya sa pagiging isang DJ dahil na rin daw sa kanyang ina.
“Ever since I was a child, I can say that my family is already into music. We all have some inclination to it. For instance my sisters are dancers, my brother plays some intruments, and my mom likes to sing her heart out during our videoke bondings. Well, sa kanya kami nagmana.
“Sobrang naging helpful yung childhood ko, wherein my family would play songs every morning. Bata pa lang, na-expose na ako sa different kinds of music throughout the years, mapa-‘60s, ’70s, ‘80s, ‘90s, and until now.
“Then one day, my family and I went to World Trade Center for an event. I was 19 years old back then. My mother saw a DJ booth and asked me to pose there so she can take a picture of me, ‘Anak punta ka doon sa harap, picturan kita.’ Dahil music lover, pumuwesto agad ako kahit na wala naman akong alam sa pagiging DJ.
“On the stage, I was a little surprised by the attention I received at that moment. Stares were thrown into my direction and people started to gather around me.
“Medyo kinabahan ako at nagtaka kung bakit sila nagtinginan sakin. Then I realized, they thought I was the DJ for that day and they were waiting for me to play some music. My family told me, ‘Uy, bagay sa ‘yo,’ and that’s when the idea came to my mind.
“A bit short and basic for a story but I clearly remember it all — the feeling and thoughts that hit me during that time when a person found an interest or passion he wants to pursue.
“Sabi ko sarili ko, ‘Oo nga no, parang maganda tong i-pursue, bakit hindi?’ Tutal nasa stage din naman siya and as a bida-bida person, puwedeng-puwede.
“Eventually, my parents bought me my first ever DJ equipment as a gift and soon I was already making and editing music on my own. This has helped me realize and recognize my passion which is now became my main source of income.”
Si Jimmy ang masasabing isa sa most in-demand DJ sa bansa. Bukod sa ilang acting projects at TV ads, si Jimmy ay isa sa mga artist ng Star Magic under Rise Artist Studio, at madalas na napapanood sa ASAP.
DJ JIMMY RECOUNTS UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE
Kahit sa pagiging DJ, para rin daw talagang artista na nasa harapan ng camera. Hindi raw niya makalilimutang karanasan nang i-break siya ng girlfriend niya habang nakasalang siya sa booth.
Aniya, “There was this time when my girlfriend broke up with me while I was in the middle of my spin. We were in a heated argument that afternoon and she decided to come with me in one of my gigs.
“Habang papunta pa lang kami sa club, nag-aaway na kami kahit nasa car pa lang. Di ko alam paano iha-handle yung situation dahil may work ako that night. Then, she went near the stage/DJ booth just enough for me to hear her say, ‘Ayoko na’ at umalis na siya.
“That would be one of my unforgettable experiences and I think it shows on my spin. Di ako makangiti nang maayos kahit sinusubukan ko.
“Right after work, umuwi agad ako at doon ko iniyak lahat. Yun nga lang, kinabukasan may gig ulit ako and I had to wear shades. Sobrang hirap na itago yung sadness when you’re onstage, but hindi talaga natin maiiwasan yung mga ganitong moments. Yung feeling na need mong magpasaya ng tao pero ikaw mismo hindi masaya, ikaw mismo malungkot.”
DJ JIMMY’S DREAM COME TRUE
Hindi rin daw makalilimutan ni Jimmy ang nakaraang 20th anniversary concert ni Sarah Geronimo, kunsaan nag-trending din siya.
Ayon dito, “Naalala ko noong bata ako, bago kasi ako kumanta sa videoke ay sinisigaw ko yung ‘Helloooo Aranetaaaa!, pero dahil sa concert na ito, I was able to shout it in front of thousands of people.
“Iba talaga sa feeling kapag nagagawa mo na yung mga bagay na dati pangarap mo lang. It was literally a dream come true for me and I was at my happiest during that show. I got to have my solo segment in that concert and perform alongside our very own popstar, Sarah Geronimo.
DJ JIMMY DREAMS OF BREAKING INTO THE GLOBAL SCENE
Sa isang banda, dating GMA Artist Center si Jimmy, pero lumipat siya sa ABS-CBN Star Magic. Nagsimula siya noong 2011 sa Protégé bilang isa sa team ni Roderick Paulate.
Kuwento niya, “From that point forward, I was given several projects, guesting, and teleserye. Yes, it opened a lot of opportunities for me but as time goes by, I was leaning more into pursuing my passion for music.
“After some time, I realized I wanted something more. I thought to myself, I needed something where I could surely excel at, with only few competitors in the field.
“Siyempre, alam naman nating lahat na mataas ang competition sa industry na ito, mataas ang expectation sa iyo, at mahirap or matagal bago ka mabigyan ng big break. That’s when I became serious about being a DJ.
“Na-realize ko na I have more potential owning the spotlight if I became a DJ, until I was discovered by ABS-CBN. Nakilala nila ako as a DJ at kinuha nila ako dahil doon. Naisip ko na puwede ko palang i-pursue yung both passion ko as a DJ and as an artista.”
Halos nalibot na raw ni Jimmy ang buong bansa bilang isang DJ, at ultimate dream daw niya na maimbitahan din internationally.
Lahad niya, “Gusto kong i-represent ang mga Pinoy at ipakita sa ibang lugar kung anong musika meron tayo. It would be my ultimate dream to share and spread Filipinos’ love for music all over the world.”
