Oktubre 31 ang ika-67 na kaarawan ng King of Philippine Drama, samantalang Nobyembre 3 ang 70th birthday ng Star for All Seasons.
Sa mediacon ng When I Met You In Tokyo nitong Oktubre 26, 2022, Huwebes ng gabi, sa Seda Vertis North, Quezon City, ay may pa-birthday cake ang producers kina Ate Vi at Papa Bo.
Ano ang wish nila para sa local movie industry, na nalugmok sa panahon ng pandemya at hanggang ngayon ay dahop sa sigla?
Tugon ni Vilma, “Siguro, kung meron man akong birthday wish sa taong ito, wala akong hihilingin kundi sana, bumalik na yung sigla ng Metro Manila Film Festival.
“And at the same time, yung mga kababayan natin… na-miss na po namin yung mga pila sa sine.
“At isang pinakamalaking wish ko this coming November 3 on my birthday, sana mababaan naman yung fare ng sine.
“Para maibalik natin… sana ipasa naman yon, kahit pagbigyan lang natin ng tatlong taon. Maka-recover lang ang industriya natin.
“Yung ibaba niyo muna sa dati muna yung fare ng sine. Kasi hindi lahat makakakaya ng P400+.
“Sana, give us naman yung pagkakataon na yun na… even for three years na maibalik lang namin yung sigla at makita uli namin yung mahahabang pila sa sine.
“So sana, I’ll pray for that. Na mapagbigyan na maibaba yung bayad sa sine, nang makaya na ng mga taga-CDE crowd. Yun ang prayers ko."

Susog ni Christopher, “Of course, talagang dasal natin… let’s all thank God that this pandemic is over, 'no. That it is over.
“So, let’s go back to the cinemas. Iba yung pag sumigla yung cinema, di ba? Iba yung joy that we get when we go out, we buy popcorn, and then watch movie with family and all that.
“Yung saya, the simple happiness and pleasures in life na nagagawa natin dati. Na nahinto because of the pandemic.
“And now we’re back, so let’s go back to the cinema and support the good, local films that will come out sa mga mga darating na araw.
“And siyempre, wish ko, wish ko din na… When I Met You In Tokyo you know, will make it really big.”
MAKING PEOPLE GO BACK TO CINEMAS
Malaking pressure bang mapabalik nila sa mga sinehan ang moviegoers,
Tumango si Vilma, “Yes, yeah, that’s true. Kasi inabot namin yun, e. Nagkataong inabot namin yun. Na nakita namin yun talaga, pag sinabing blockbuster, blockbuster talaga.
“Nakita natin yung mga pelikula kung papaano pilahan noong araw, di ba? Inabot din namin na hindi na pumipila sa SM, pumipila talaga sa sine. Parang ahas, di ba?
“But nawala na yun. Nakaka-miss yung ganun. And I think, it has something to do with our economy, too.
“And then, andami nating challenges sa bansa, di ba? The pandemic and everything.
“So that’s why, marami ngayon ang umaasa, na sana yung sigla na yun… plus may kalaban pa tayo na iba-iba na plataporma sa social media, di ba?
“Kaya nang panoorin yung mga pelikula dun. Andaming kalaban! Pero wala pa ring makakapagbago dun sa bonding na puwedeng gawin pag naibalik natin yung mga manonood talaga na pumipila, bonding ng family, kakain, manonood ng sine.
“Yun ang nawala sa tingin ko. So ngayon, yeah, it’s a burden. Na sana, this coming MMFF, with the 10 movies na io-offer, sana po…
“And then at the same time, I’m really praying ma-adjust yung bayad. Sana po, sana po maibalik natin yung sigla na yun, ng mga manonood at ma-enjoy nila muli at bumalik sa sine.
Pagmamatuwid ni Christopher, “Yeah… OK, for us it’s not really we call it pressure, no. It’s more of a… how can we cater, how can we show something or contribute…
“Or how can we make people go back to the movie houses, and present a feel good, a beautiful visual… we always say, Vi, this is a visual feast! It is! It is!
“It is a visual feast, you know. Pag pinanood mo ito, it’s going to be like blow you like… boom! A beautiful film… beautiful colors, you know, a beautiful story and all that.
“We want people to enjoy going back to the movie houses, kaya eto, nagkaroon ako ng target to do something. A movie like this that, you know, will cater to everyone.
“Cater to the young ones, our age, our fans, and even the adults and their children.
“It’s not a pressure pero for me, it should be really special. This movie, it should be really special.
“And ito po ang ginawa namin for several months, finishing the movie, we were like squeezing each other. Kami, lahat kami… everybody was pressuring each other to make this a beautiful film.
“And hopefully with this material that we have, this project that we have, ma-gain uli namin yung trust ng mga tao to go back and enjoy Filipino films.
“Especially this movie, our movie… hoping and praying to God na of course, siyempre ito naman ang pangarap naming dalawa, ‘Gawa tayo ng pelikula uli!’ sabi ko. ‘Gawa tayo ng pelikula uli!’
“Sabi ko kay Direk Rado, ‘Why don’t you guys call Vilma Santos? Do this material.’ ‘Hah?!’
“And I’m so lucky to be a part of this material, this movie. And hoping… ngayon pa lang, grateful that this is a beautiful movie. We have a beautiful movie that will cater to all.”

“But when Miss Redgie gave me a call, na may offer sa akin na isang Christopher de Leon na movie… a love story with Christopher de Leon, yes kaagad ako.
“Talaga! Yes! In the first place, si Yetbo ito, si Boyet ito. Parang ang feeling ko, komportable na ako dito. Saka it’s been a while since our last movie together.
“And the best part, nung when I asked for the synopsis, when I read the script, it’s a love story pero sa edad namin. So, yun ang gusto ko…
“I heard na ihinahanda na raw yung movie namin pag-80 years old naming dalawa.”
