Anthony Jennings and Maris Racal are surprised by the sudden popularity of their tandem in the Netflix series Can't Buy Me Love.
In their interview with TV Patrol last January 30, 2024, both said they didn’t expect their accidental love team to work.
Maris, said, "It was all unplanned. Nagkaroon lang talaga kami ng isang eksenang nag-viral. Yung nakaapak ako ng poop.
"Natuwa naman ako kasi hindi naman laging may makakatambal ka na magwo-work, magja-jive yung humor niyo. And very happy ako sa support ng mga tao."
"Ito yung pinaka-wild na character kong ginawa. Kitang-kita naman sa mga eksena namin. Hindi ko talaga ginagawa yun pero, ayun, nakakatuwa naman na minahal siya [Snoop] ng mga tao."
In the same interview, she expressed her thoughts about being tagged a rom-com (romantic-comedy) queen.
Maris said, "This country... sobrang love nila ang rom-com. For them to call me rom-com queen, parang hindi ko pa keri yung crown."
For now, here are some of the funniest and endearing SnoRene scenes in Can't Buy Me Love that have delighted viewers so far.
Mama mo
The scene opens with Snoop walking down the street and doing some final sprucing up for his date. He is wearing a polo shirt with a bow tie and carrying a small bouquet of flowers.
He bumps into Irene, causing the egg tarts she is munching to drop from her hand.
Fearing another violent reprisal from Maris, Snoop starts to run away from her, exclaiming, "Ikaw... lumayo ka sa akin, malas ka!"
Irene, high heels and all, furiously runs after him, demanding that he pays for her ruined tarts.
Snoop barks back that she owes him a thank you.
Fnally recognizing Snoop as the guy who once saved her life, Irene grabs his arm, wanting to thank him.
But he continues to rant, “Puwede ba, layuan mo nga ako. Tuwing nakikita kita, nasisira araw ko, e. Pati ba naman itong date ko, e-echos-in mo pa."
He goes on, showing her the ruined bouquet, "Tingnan mo ginawa mo, o.”
Irene asks, incredulous, “You have a date?”
Snoop boasts, “Siyempre.”
She scoffs, pointing at his outfit, “Looking like that?
“Who’s your date?” Irene probes while attempting to fix Snoop shirt and bow tie.
Not knowing how to answer the question, he blurts out, “Mama mo!”
Irene, surprised, “Mama ko?”
For some reason, even if not true, Snoop tells her, “Oo, mama mo!”
terms of endearment
Snoop calls Irene “Erna” or “Ernalyn” in reference to the first time they bumped into each other and she stepped on poop.
Irene calls him “Poop” because she was always stepping on something during their messy encounters.
Consistently, Snoop's name on Irene’s phone is the poop icon, while Erna is her name on his phone.
Snoop’s dream sequence: PART 1
The scene opens with Snoop doing his laundry. He sees a hot pink sleeveless crop top and wonders, “Kanino 'to? Akin ba 'to?”
A little girl not too far away from where he sits calls out, “Papa, dumi na my clothes!”
Snoop, in disbelief, cries out, “Papa? Ano ako ketch– Aaaah!”
Suddenly, he sees three girls, looking exactly like Irene, standing in front of him.
Irene, entering and throwing a bunch of clothes at Snoop’s face, scolds him, “Hey, o! Naiwan mo sa laundry basket. Ang dami-dami pa!”
Horrified, Snoop shrieks, “Ha, ano ito? Bakit dumami kayo?”
Irene chides him, “Dear, stop it! Naririnig ka ng kids natin!
"And when youre done with those, please pakihugasan ang dishes. And punasan mo nga yung poop sa Jimmy Choos ko!”
SNOOP’S DREAM SEQUENCE: PART 2
Snoop’s dream sequence continues with Irene telling him, “...and I’m craving omelette, pero yung walang itlog!”
Snoop can't believe it. “Omelette na walang itlog?”
His dream ends with the three “kids” calling him papa.
Snoop wakes up screaming!
Maputing matambok
Another time at the restaurant where Irene is getting her service training at her aunt's restaurant.
Serving Snoop, she asks sarcastically,“What do you want, Sir?”
Snoop replies with much emphasis, “Bigyan mo ako ng ano… yung maputi. So bilugan yun, e. Tapos, matambok. Matambok yun, e.”
Irene squirms,“Yuck, ew! Pervert!”
Snoop retorts, “Bakit? Bilugan, matambok, maputi. Siopao yun!”
Irene, exasperated, “E, you should have said siopao na lang. Kung anu-ano pa sinasabi mo!”
Snoop insists, “O, sige. Bigyan mo na lang ako ng siopao na matambok.”
She puts her foot down, “Stop saying matambok. Okay, just siopao. No water, ha!”
He continues to mock her, “Matambok, matambok, matambok, matambok,” as she leaves to get his food.
Irene shouts back, “Yuck, ew!”
Gugol mo
Back story: Irene's drinking
Irene and Snoop are inside her car, arguing as usual. This is the part where they strike an agreement—Snoop buys her liquor and Irene, a closet alcoholic, pays him weekly.
Snoop gets a warning from Irene as he turns to leave the car after closing the deal.
She threatens, "Galingan mo, ha, kundi papakulong kita."
Unfazed, he claps back, "E, di see you sa kulungan. Ernang ito."
She, clueless: "Erna... hey, whats erna?"
He, irked: "Gugol mo!"
She, impatiently: "What's gugol?"
He yells "Googel!" as he steps out of the car.
She corrects him, "It's Google!" just as he is closing the car door.
