Singer Morissette took to social media to defend herself against criticisms about her performance at a corporate event.
A now-deleted Facebook post purportedly from the event's director, Vic Sevilla, lashed out at a singer whose "much-vaunted vocal power appeared to be missing that night."
Wrote a disappointed Vic, “Naturally, we were expecting no less than a fiery performance from her."
According to Vic, the singer, whom he did not identify, "seemed zapped of energy, acted uninterested, and sounded distant and cold" and "as if all enthusiasm escaped her the moment she stepped on stage."
He went on, “It was disappointing given that performers of her stature and popularity demand a hefty price to appear in corporate events.
"At the very least, she could have faked enthusiasm to cheer the audience up and not act as if she wanted to get off the stage in haste.”
In the end, Vic called the singer "a complete waste of time and money."
Morissette speaks up
While no names were explicitly mentioned, many netizens speculated that Vic was referring to none other than Morissette, known for her title as "Asia's Phoenix."

Morissette gained fame in 2013 when she joined and made it to the semifinals of the first season of the reality singing competition program The Voice of the Philippines.
Through Instagram Story, Morissette gave her version of what transpired during the event.
Morissette pointed out that she had never met Vic, expressing confusion over why he would go out of his way to criticize her.

She wrote (published as is), "I was actually bedridden the day before with a fever and no voice, that I was close to cancelling said event. But the show must go on, and I went as agreed."
Morissette said her husband, Dave Lamar, had to cancel his work for the day to drive her to the event.

The event's talent coordinator, added Morissette, was aware of her health condition and assisted her backstage since her condition necessitated the use of steroids.
"I performed as planned, again not a hundred percent, but rest assured I gave my all, even congratulating the awardees on stage and still belting my heart out," stressed the singer.
Morissette recalled "still belting my heart out" and obliging to photo requests from the staff despite having health issues that evening.

STILL PRONE TO BAD DAYS
For Morissette, the incident was an example that you can't please everybody.
She emphasized once again that she showed up and did try to perform to the best of her abilities.
"So I really don't know what else to tell you guys," Morissette said.
"I have pretty high standards for myself especially when it comes to my craft, but I knew then that there wasn't really much I could do because I am still in fact human and get sick and have down days too."
She then advised everyone to "really take care of ourselves and stay away from unnecessary negativity."
