For 46 years, we've embraced the familiar sight of Garfield—the chubby, orange tabby cat with droopy eyes—indulging in his eternal pursuit of laziness and his beloved dish, lasagna.

It seems like scriptwriters Mark Torgove, Paul A. Kaplan, and filmmaker Mark Dindal have grown tired of Garfield's lethargic antics and opted to prod the beloved feline into action.

The Garfield Movie marks the big-screen return of Garfield after the 2009 animated superhero film Garfield's Pet Force.

So what makes this latest take different? For starters, Garfield takes center stage in The Garfield Movie, as the writers delve deeper into his life, infusing the story with a subtle emotional touch yet avoiding excessive sentimentality.

GARFIELD UNMASKED

Garfield's backstory is rarely told on television and in the movies, making it an interesting angle to explore for the team behind The Garfield Movie.

It's worth pointing out that the origin story of Garfield, as depicted in his original emergence in comic strips during the '70s, diverges from the narrative presented in the latest movie adaptation.`

For this one, Garfield's relationship, or lack thereof, with his father is explored, making it the central theme of the conflict and narrative.

After being kidnapped, Garfield and fellow house pet Odie, a beagle dog, come face to face with sketchy characters led by a Persian cat named Jinx.

NOOD KA MUNA!

Garfield (Chris Pratt) and Odie (Harvey Guillén) find themselves entangled in a criminal mission. Joining the two is Garfield's long-lost father, Vic (Samuel L. Jackson), who also had a history with Jinx (Hannah Waddingham).

What follows is a series of adventures that challenge the resolve of all three characters, while also exploring the evolving relationship between Garfield and Vic as they grapple with their roles as estranged father and son.

WHY YOU SHOULD SEE THE GARFIELD MOVIE

One of the great things about the movie is the addition of new characters in Garfield's orbit.

While Jon Arbuckle (Nicholas Hoult), Garfield's owner, remains a constant presence, he steps back, allowing Garfield and the other characters to take the spotlight for the majority of the film's duration.

Touching on Garfield's backstory adds a fresh layer to his character and narrative.

It offers a departure from the familiar traits of a seemingly nonchalant and food-loving house pet that audiences have come to know so well.

Furthermore, Garfield finds himself in the middle of action-packed sequences that challenge his signature "lazy" personality, showcasing a side of him that surprises viewers.

In summary, The Garfield Movie offers an enjoyable viewing experience for children and the whole family, presenting a fresh perspective on the beloved lasagna-loving tabby that fans will find pleasantly surprising.

The Garfield Movie is now showing in cinemas nationwide.
