Despite the swashbuckling action and their larger-than-life appearances, the Transformers franchise has skillfully crafted a portrayal of alien robots with distinctly human emotions.
This was especially evident in Transformers One, the latest installment in the franchise’s expanding roster of films inspired by the beloved '80s animated series.

Directed by Josh Cooley (Toy Story 4), Transformers One serves as an origin story that delves into the early relationship of archrivals Optimus Prime and Megatron, and the birth of the factions they lead: the Autobots and Decepticons.
In an interview with Screen Rant, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura calls the film “the beginning of the story” and “literally the beginning of the thing that we've all come to appreciate.”

TRANSFORMERS ONE: SYNOPSIS
In a dying world called Cybertron, where dwindling Energon threatens their very existence, two close friends, Orion Pax (Chris Hemsworth) and D-16 (Brian Tyree Henry), toil as lowly miners.
Despite their close bond, Orion Pax and D-16 couldn’t be more different.

Orion Pax dreams of transcending their grim reality to become a hero, while D-16 is content with the status quo, fearing the chaos that change could unleash.
Unknown to them, their contrasting personalities would ultimately shape their fates and determine the paths they would pursue as citizens of Cybertron.
Orion Pax and D-16 meet Sentinel Prime, the last of Cybertron’s legendary leaders, and they go on a mission to regain their place in society as they are demoted from miners to garbage sorters.

They uncover shocking truths about Cybertron, including the true nature of Sentinel Prime, who may not be the hero they look up to.
These stunning revelations will put their friendship to the test, as their conflicting viewpoints and personalities come to light, forcing them to choose between their principles and their friendship.
MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE

Transformers One brings a fresh and exciting take to the iconic franchise, adding depth and new perspectives to its rich legacy.
Exploring the origins of Optimus Prime and Megatron is brilliant, given that their past has been largely unexplored in previous installments.

The revelation that they began not as bitter rivals, but as the closest of friends, adds depth and drama to their backstories, providing a solid foundation for their complex relationship.
This angle effectively deepens the narrative and heightens the stakes of their eventual conflict.
Additionally, the film tackles themes of social inequality and corruption, illustrating that Cybertron grapples with issues strikingly similar to those faced by humanity on Earth.
Transformers One satisfies both dedicated Transformers fans and casual viewers intrigued by the spectacle of battling robots.
The humor and eye-catching animation are a bonus, too.

It introduces new elements to the franchise's lore while ensuring that even those unfamiliar with the Autobots-Decepticons rivalry can enjoy and follow the story without missing a beat.
Transformers One demonstrates that there are still many stories to tell and explore within the franchise, proving that its appeal is far from diminished.
It is now showing in cinemas across the Philippines.
