An elaborate backdrop was set up on the executive lounge of GMA-7 Network Center last night, January 29, in line with the theme of the station's newest show, Magic Kamison.
A row of ukay-ukay clothes were lined up for display while a huge picture frame served as the backdrop of the stage where the main characters performed a short skit that summarized the plot of Magic Kamison, which will run for one season (13 weeks).
As part of GMA-7's First Quarter Explosion, Magic Kamison tells the story of Chuchay (Gladys Guevarra)—an amusing, kind-hearted assistant sales lady in an ukay-ukay store who becomes a modern-day fairy godmother after a mysterious old woman hands her a white chemise (kamison) to continue the mission of fulfilling the dreams of people with pure intentions.
Like an innocent child, Chuchay accepts the task of shielding the magic kamison from those who would want to use it for selfish reasons. On her first mission, Chuchay meets best friends Ava (Nadine Samonte) and Lindsay (Iwa Moto) who are very similar to each other except for one thing—physical beauty. Ava is stunningly beautiful while Lindsay is the exact opposite.
However, things start to change when Jaren (Alfred Vargas), a good-looking guy, arrives and becomes the love interest of the two friends. Since Ava is stunningly beautiful, Jaren falls in love with her. Meanwhile, Lindsay, who is also in love with him, sulks in sadness and even drifts away from their friendship until she meets Chuchay. With the help of the magic kamison, Lindsay's fervent wish of becoming beautiful will come true!
Also included in the cast of Magic Kamison are Carmi Martin, Joy Viado, Tia Pusit, and Mike Gayoso, with the special participation of Ms. Pilita Corrales as the voice behind the Magic Kamison.
As Lindsay becomes as beautiful as Ava, will she finally get the attention of Jaren and steal him from her best friend? Or will she keep her distance and find her own true love? What will happen to the strong friendship that Lindsay shares with Ava?

DIFFICULT QUESTIONS. After the short skit, the characters sat down with the show's director, Khryss Adalla, to answer questions from the press.
Gladys was the first star to be asked by the press: ‘What exactly prompted you to leave Eat Bulaga?' When she answered that the real reason why she left Eat Bulaga is for her health, some members of the press expressed their disbelief, to which she replied, "Hindi ko po mapi-please ang lahat."
The star of Magic Kamison was then asked if she would be willing to promote her show in the noontime show Eat Bulaga, she paused for while before saying, "Hindi ko pa po alam. Wala pa pong sinasabi sa akin kung saan ko ipo-promote yung show." She then became teary-eyed, prompting her co-stars Iwa Moto and Nadine Samonte to comfort her.
Gladys declared, "Siyempre po, anim na taon po ako sa Eat Bulaga e. Wala naman po akong against sa kanila."
After a few more questions, the organizers signified that it was the end of the program. Gladys stepped out the room to compose herself while the rest of the stars stayed behind. After a few minutes, she went back to the presidential table to answer some more questions from the press.
When asked to explain why she became emotional, she responded by saying, "Para sa akin, kailangan ko ba ikahiya tungkol sa kalusugan ko? tungkol sa likod ko? Bakit hindi ko maikatwiran yung sarili ko? Parang inisip na lang yung mga tao kung anong gusto nilang isipin. Ikakamatay ko yung likod ko pag hindi ko ipinahinga."
Ms. Wilma Galvante, Senior Vice President for Entertainment ng GMA-7, expressed her gratitude to Mother Lily Monteverde, matriarch of Regal Entertainment, for allowing the network to use Magic Kamison, which was the good luck charm used by Regal to launch their stars during the early ‘80s.
"Nagpapasalamat talaga ako kay Mother Lily. Yung idea ng magic kamison that gives you good luck or gives other people good luck, na-spin off siya into a story na pwede siyang gamitin ngayon," explains Ms. Galvante.
Magic Kamison premieres this Sunday, February 4, after SOP on GMA-7.
