URBANDUB AND TYPECAST SONGS

Ilan sa mga kanta nila ay “Another Minute Til Ten," "Will You Ever Learn," at "The Boston Drama."

THE CHALLENGES

"It was no easy feat–staying together for 25 years," sabi ni Steve ng Typecast.

Patuloy ni Steve, "But the secret sauce I think, is simply being consistent in everything we do—from rehearsals to shows, being respectful to our beginnings, and keeping up with the new, and incorporating all of it to our sound."

Para sa Typecast guitarist na si John, "I think the first challenges that the band went through was moving ourselves from school. Yun. I was really into arts but I was working. I quit my job. Grabe."

Sabi naman ni Gabby ng Urbandub: "It's different in every stage, yung mga challenges. I mean being able to maintain [the band] also, especially your band’s setting, coz you’re all different individuals.

"So, your level of understanding at saka basis ninyo minsan."

"We’re also remote. Kasi nagkakaiba-iba ng buhay especially when we started having our own band, may nagpapalaki ng anak.

"Secondly, yung understanding ng we all still come together performing our music. Thankfully, we’re still together.

“Pero it has its ups and downs. Kaya kami nag-hiatus for about four years. We took a break after our 15th anniversary.”

May kanya-kanya kaming 'sapatos.' And yun rin, isa rin sa mga naging challenges is being a band from outside Metro Manila.

"Alam ng UrbanDub yung feeling na yon. Pamasahe pa lang challenge na. Hahaha!

"Yung challenge noon, kasi mahirap pumasok sa Manila rock scene. So, yung challenge na mapakita rin or mashi-share yung music namin outside Manila."

Ani Steve: "And siyempre, the age, yung gout, ganyan. Hahaha!

"Buti wala pang nagmi-maintenance sa aming apat. And, malamang na nakita na nila sa online yung nangyari sa banda before. So, yun, basahin niyo na lang.”

Ano ang best gig na na-perform nila in 25 years?

"That’s hard," sambit ni Gabby ng Urbandub.

Patuloy ni Gabby: "Depende. Different stages ng points of our career. I guess, one of the most memorable is when we started playing in our first NU 107 Rock Awards."

Kuwento pa ni Gabby: “Kasi for any band, especially coming from the province, tapos in our genre na rock, we want to play that stage.

"For us to be able to perform there and represent where we come from, it's a milestone for us.

"And then, as it progresses, we get to perform outside of the country for the first time."

Patuloy ni Gabby: "And then, being able to perform in a big show. Sometimes malulula ka na ang daming tao.

"A gig on tour for the whole year with other bands like Wolfgang, Parokya ni Edgar, Rico Blanco, Kamikaze. Tour around the country, marami. Iba-iba.

"Even bar shows are exciting... Thanks to the people. Pero the energy is pure, maganda yung exchange."

TYPECAST UNFORGETTABLE GIGS

Ayon kay Kokoy, “Every first show. First time naming lumuwas, mga ganoon. From Sta Rosa, Laguna kasi, so first show, like, Manila show.

"And then, yung first out of the country, yung mga ganon. Yung music festival in Singapore.

"I mean, sobrang kabado kasi siyempre ibang mga tao. Pero sobrang thankful doon.

"Then, yung first U.S. tour namin noong 2012.

Lahad ni Chi: It’’s a birthday party somewhere in Cubao, konti lang ang tao

"Ang banda lang doon kami and Sandwhich ata. So, that’s one of my most memorable show we had, yun nga private kasi siya."

25 YEARS AND COUNTING

After 25 years, isang milestone para sa Urbandub at Typecast ang tumagal ang kanilang mga banda.

Sabi ni Gabby: "Being able to last this long, I guess. Sharing of our music, mga kuwento namin.

"And then, having an audience to listen to that music na, until now, kumbaga, we get to still hear people singing along to those songs, for both bands, ha?

"Nakakataba ng puso yun kasi. You’re still relevant."

"Yung setlist namin is mas curated pa compared sa mga regular shows namin.

"So, i-expect nila yung mga fan favorites at siyempre yung mga single andun and more."

"We’ve done countless shows with them, and we’ve come to be great friends.

"We would always look forward to new music from them, and it would inspire us to go out and work on new music as well.

"As a band, Urbandub was the kind of group that just took things one day at a time– the real enjoyment is creating and playing music, so I guess that helped us last this long."
