ALV Pageant Circle president and Miss World Philippines Organization national director Arnold Vegafria has pledged to use his pageant platforms to lead independent initiatives that will help boost Philippine tourism.
Arnold made the announcement during his opening remarks at the Miss World Philippines 2026 Press Presentation on Friday, January 26, 2026, held at Okada Manila in Parañaque City.
Noting the pageant's vision to expand its nationwide footprint, he expressed pride in the organization’s newest roster of franchise partners.
He also emphasized his optimism about engaging more Filipino communities abroad as part of his ongoing push for inclusivity and the promotion of Philippine tourism.
The beauty queen-maker said, “The Miss World Philippines Organization proudly affirms our ever-growing roster of regional and provincial affiliates, and this year, we’re looking forward to the collateral participation of our candidates from Davao, Hawaii, New York, Singapore, United Kingdom, Ifugao Province, Iligan City, and Sultan Kudarat."
He continued, "Aside from ensuring that we’ll truly get fair representation from all the various corners of our provinces and cities, this directive also enables us to keep with our legacy of promoting local tourism through our humble efforts."
Arnold’s remark follows weeks of controversy surrounding local tourism officials—an issue he openly acknowledged during his speech.
He said, "With the ongoing criticism being faced by local tourism officials, we can only do our best by spreading our own initiatives to promote Philippine tourism using our pageant platforms."
Recent criticism toward local tourism officials has largely focused on Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, who drew backlash for appearing prominently on the cover of a December 2025 lifestyle magazine.
Critics argued that the feature felt like self-promotion and distracted from the need to highlight actual Philippine destinations, especially amid declining international visitor arrivals.
The issue added to wider frustrations over the Department of Tourism’s performance, including its failure to meet its 2025 target of foreign arrivals—recording only 5.6 million visitors—and concerns that personal branding has been prioritized over improving tourism marketing and infrastructure in key destinations such as Boracay, Palawan, and Cebu.
ARNOLD VEGAFRIA: PROMOTING TOURISM
In an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), Arnold expanded on his earlier statements and clarified his organization’s mission amid the ongoing issues in the tourism sector.
When asked if his speech was subtly addressing current issues surrounding local tourism officials, Arnold responded candidly, “Well, we have to face reality.”
He continued, "I'm sure every Filipinos, nafi-feel nila that we have the best natural resources in our country, but never support when it comes to promotion.
"I want to tell them that the pageantry is the best platform to... the cheapest platform to promote our tourism industry.
Arnold noted that while government action has been limited, private groups like his are committed to stepping in.
“Us as a private company and a private organization, we will take the initiative because we love our country,” he said.
"We will make our own initiative to promote the tourism industry of our country. Not only the beautiful sceneries but, of course, the beautiful Filipinas and the hospitality of the Filipinos, the food, everything."
He emphasized that Miss World Philippines Organization, its candidates and their individual followings, and the reach of social media, can help amplify these efforts.
"There's a lot that we can offer in our country," he said. "I believe that is the... It is the cheapest platform because how many candidates that can promote...
"Because of the existence of social media, puwede na yun, e. In our very small way, we can promote the tourism industry. And that is my number one goal, to help the tourism industry."
