Many Filipinos are now tuning in to micro-dramas, a new entertainment format designed specifically for viewing on smartphones.
What started as a niche format in China in 2018 is now a global phenomenon.
About 100 million individuals actively consumed micro-dramas by the end of 2025, according to DataEye.
Filipinos are at the forefront of this trend.
According to data from ReelShort, one of the world’s largest micro-drama platforms, the Philippines is its third-largest market globally, behind only the United States and Indonesia.
A possible sign of Filipinos’ growing appetite for micro-dramas is the popularity of Linda Walker, a character from the Chinese series The Heiress Who Won with Brains.
A Tagalog-dubbed scene in which she scores 719 points on a high-stakes mock exam went viral, spawning countless memes, reaction videos, and parodies across Philippine social media.
Local producers have also begun producing their own.
ABS-CBN, for example, released The Chambermaid’s Daughter and Shadow CEO on iWant.

Now, a new Filipino platform wants to get in on the trend.
It’s Kaya Flix, the newest vertical drama video channel dedicated exclusively to Filipino audiences, which officially launched in August 2026.
According to Maki Javier, the director behind Kaya Flix, he wants his new platform to offer enjoyable stories to Filipinos looking for quick entertainment.
“We try to get stories na ma-e-enjoy ng mga ganun yung hinahanap. Yung gusto lang mag-enjoy, papunta ako sa trabaho, meron akong 10 minutes,” Direk Maki told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal).
Currently, he is in charge of directing all the micro-dramas on his platform, but he eventually wants to give the opportunity to student filmmakers.
Here are a few micro-dramas featured on Kaya Flix:
SA DULO’T DULO
Sa Dulo’t Dulo tells the story of two young men who open old wounds when they unexpectedly cross paths during a weekly run.
This boy’s love drama stars Sky Quizon and Migs Almendras.
Direk Maki revealed to PEP that the story is based on his own experiences with matters of the heart.
“Kasi on that breakup, I didn't have an actual ending, parang ganun. So when I was making it, I wrote the ending na lang sa parang sa utak ko,” he shared.
LUPANG HIRAYA
Lupang Hiraya is a political satire that tells the story of a politician trying to steal the land of an indigenous group while telling the press that she’s helping them be more progressive.
“There will be a congresswoman na gustong sumakop dun sa area nila. Siyempre, gustong gawing condominium, gustong bumundok, gustong bungkagin. Tapos may malalaman na plot si Congresswoman Aurora na magshe-shake dun sa core niya,” explained Direk Maki.
Lupang Hiraya stars Mara Caparas, Bernah Bernardo, Kyo Quijano, and Lance Reblando.
SANCTUM
For Sanctum, Direk Maki wants to express his admiration for the girls’ love (GL) genre.
“We're also fans kasi of mga GL and all that, tapos a lot of the team members ni Kaya, parang 10% lang ang straight. Kaya eto, it's a GL na horror,” he said.
The micro-drama tells the story of Nica and Camille, best friends in a Catholic all-girls school who secretly purchase a mysterious phone that can contact spirits.
Sanctum stars Yani Villarosa and Nadine Gouse.
sa duSINAYA
Kaya Flix also has a fantasy romance titled Sinaya, which tells the story of a young man who gets trapped in a timeless domain because of a stubborn diwata.
It stars Raven Rigor and Majoy Apostol.
“Si Raven ay may lolo na namatay then he finds a letter. Tapos dun sa letter na yun may long-lost love yung lolo niya.
"So hinanap niya out of curiosity only to find out na diwata yung mahal ng lolo niya,” explained Direk Maki.
SOCIAL MEDIA DETOX
Social Media Detox is Kaya Flix’s feel-good romantic comedy.
“It’s about an influencer pinatapon sa malayong lugar kasi may scandal sa Manila,” shared the director.
While in exile, the influencer meets a resort caretaker who helps her live without social media.
This micro-film stars Dana Varona, Khalid Abdullah, and Malou Canzana.
NOMAS
Then there’s Nomas, a barkada comedy that stars Inah Evans, Symon Pagtalunan, EJ Jallorina and CK Gatpandan.
“Nakipag-inuman sa mga lokal ang mga bakla. Nabagansya. Tinapon sila ng mga lalaki sa gubat,” said Direk Maki.
While in the forest, the gay barkada has to survive the elements while dealing with their spiraling friendship.
Nomas is not yet available on Kaya Flix, so interested viewers should watch for further announcements.
Meanwhile, viewers can already watch other micro-dramas, like The Parents We Never Expected, Ang Pag-Uwi, Double Booking, Ang Huling Gabi Kasama si Aya, and Mga Halimaw.
