GMA-7 relives the drama
of a Maryo J. Delos Reyes classic film this time on the boobtube as it renders
the television remake of Saan Darating
Ang Umaga?
The eleventh installment of Sine Novela tells the story of a close-knit family suddenly shattered by
jealousy and greed. The film version, which was shown in 1983, featured top
caliber actors Nida Blanca, Nestor de Villa, and Maricel Soriano and was since
then hailed as one of Philippine Cinema's all-time classics.
Making up the cast this
time are Joel Torre, Lani Mercado, Jacob Rica and Yasmien Kurdi, who will be
paired with Starstruck batch mate
Dion Ignacio. The main characters are joined by equally good actors such as
Charlie Davao, Pinky Amador, Gary Estrada, Luz Valdez, Shirley Fuentes, Andrea
Del Rosario, and Arci Munoz.
For the first time in Sine Novela's history, the director of
the movie, Maryo J. Delos Reyes, agreed to handle the modern version as well. While
Sine Novela had always adhered to remain loyal to the old materials they
presented in the past, the team behind the afternoon drama series made it a point
to enlist Direk Maryo since they wanted to make this one closer to the heart of
the original story.
Direk Maryo had been
very vocal before in expressing his unwillingness to participate in the remake
of his past movies. But according to him, it was different this time since he
felt the material is worthy and fit for television.
But other than the
drama and story dynamics presented, Saan
Darating Ang Umaga aims to inspire viewers to be tough and resilient in
facing personal problems and conflicts—the same way it did when the public
first saw it back in the early '80s.
Sine Novela presents Saan Darating Ang Umaga? premieres today, November 10, on GMA-7's Dramarama sa Hapon.
