Puerto Rican Andres Alexis Fernandez and new actor Joseph Izon topbill the coming-out tale Lovebirds, which is directed by Ronaldo "Ronnie" Bertubin. Direk Ronnie previously helmed the indie films Sikil (Unspoken Passion) and Kurap (Blink), both of which did well in the international scene. Boots Anson-Roa and Tommy Abuel play important roles in this indie film about finding love on the Internet.
SYNOPSIS. Alexis is a foreigner from Spain who came to the Philippines to meet his online chatmate Mario. Boots Anson-Roa and Tommy Abuel portray Amelia and Marcelino Cabislay, the parents of Mario, who were initially happy about their son's announcement that he has found the love of his life through the Internet.
They were excited to learn that Mario's online "friend" from Spain has decided to fly to the Philippines to meet him. In keeping with Filipino tradition, the newly arrived guest is welcomed with a huge gathering.
When Alexis arrives in their town in Laguna, the conservative parents introduced him as Alex, the brother of Mario's "friend." They try to hide the fact that Mario is actually in love with a man. Can Amelia and Marcelino accept their son's true nature and let the lovebirds be together?
Lovebirds will be screened starting December 10 at Robinsons Galleria, Robinsons Ermita, Grand Central Gotesco Commonwealth, Remar, ABC and Isetann Recto.
