Very elusive talaga ang korona ng Miss World para sa Pilipinas.
Sa katatapos na 58th Miss World sa Sandton Convention Centre sa Johannesburg, South Africa na ginanap noong December 14 (December 13, U.S. time), ay itinanghal na bagong Miss World ang beauty delegate ng Russia na si Kseniya Sukhinova, winning against 108 other beauties from around the world.
Miss Russia's runners-up were Miss India (first runner-up Parvathy Omanakuttan) and Trinidad & Tobago (second runner-up Gabrielle Walcott). Completing the Top 5 were Miss Angola (Brigith dos Santos) and Miss South Africa (Tansey Coetzee).
Ang iba pang semi-finalists ay mga representatives from Barbados (Natalie Griffith, Brazil (Tamara Almeida), Croatia (Josipa Kusic), Iceland (Alexandra Ivarsdottir), Kazakhastan (Alfina Nassvrova), Puerto Rico (Ivonne Orsini), Spain (Patricia Rodriguez), Ukraine (Irina Zhuravskaya), and Venezuela (Hannelly Quintero).
Ang Philippine representative na si Danielle Kirsten Muriel Castaño ay hindi man lang nakapasok sa Top 15. Danielle replaced former Bb. Pilipinas-World Janina San Miguel after the latter gave up her crown.
Ang tanging consolation ng Philippine delegate ay napasama ito sa Top 10 finalists ng fast-track event na Miss World Beauty Beach along with South Africa, Russia, Angola, India, Puerto Rico, Spain, and Venezuela. Si Miss South Africa ang nanalo sa event na ito.
Pumasok din naman ang Pilipinas sa isa pang fast-track event ng Miss World 2008, ang Miss World Top Model, kung saan isa si Danielle sa Top 32 semi-finalists. The title was eventually won by Miss Russia.
Hindi naman nakapasok si Miss Philippines sa iba pang fast-track events, katulad ng Miss World Sports (won by Miss Iceland), Miss World Talent (won by Miss Barbados), at Beauty with a Purpose (Trinidad & Tobago).
Ang iba pang winners sa katatapos na Miss World 2008 ay Best World Dress Designer (won by the United States) at Continental Queens of Beauty na napanalunan ng India (Asia Pacific), Trinidad & Tobago (Caribbean), at Russia (Europe).
Miss World 2007 Zhang Zilin of the People's Republic of China relinquished her crown to Miss Russia in a lavish presentation that was watched by over two billion people around the world.
