There is no holiday for some of the top bands on Rizal Day as they all head to A. Venue Event Hall, Makati Avenue, in Makati City on December 30 to Give a Damn, a benefit concert organized by IndieJam.
The concert gathers some of independent music's up and coming artists as they get to share the stage with the country's top bands in the music scene. The list of bands performing at the show include 6cyclemind, Alamid, Cambio, Chilitees, Kjwan, Paraluman, and Stonefree as they go head to head with Pack of Wolvz, Pentaspiral, Lazy Lorelei, Edible Smoke Recess, and Dayuhan.
IndieJam is the brainchild of husband-and-wife tandem Chippy and Eileen Rivera, who are residents of Melbourne but Filipinos at heart. They promote musicians online and have gathered a roster of around 120 artists from all over the world.
Give A Damn is a worldwide campaign by IndieJam to make different people aware of different social issues in their country.
Eileeen Rivera, co-founder and chief events organiser of IndieJam, explains further, "The idea of GIVE A DAMN is to give local up-and-coming bands and musicians more exposure by making them share the stage with more established artists. At the same time, we wanted to raise funds for local foundations. And music is the perfect way to unite a whole range of people. It is a universal language."
IndieJam has become the haven for to spread their music all over cyberspace. Musicians, regardless of genre, can sign up for free at http://www.indiejam.org/ and upload their original tunes and videos.
After the event, the husband and wife team of Chippy and Eileen will fly back to Melbourne to organize Give a Damn Australia, which is tentatively scheduled in mid-2009. But IndieJam will still continue here in the country by setting up bar events for IndieJam artists.
Give a Damn will be held on December 30, 2008 at A.Venue Event Hall, Makati Avenue, from 5 pm onwards. The event will be hosted by Bernard Palanca and Erika Hocson. Tickets are P350 each with a free drink, available in Odyssey outlets in Metro Manila.
