Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo's first movie together—Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo—is cited by Gawad TANGLAW as one of the best movies of 2006.

Gawad TANGLAW (Gawad Tagapuring mga Akademik ng Aninong Gumagalaw) will hold its 5th Gawad Parangal on March 1 at the University of Perpetual Help in Las Piñas City.

This group of film critics, scholars, historians, and professors of humanities has selected five films representing the best of 2006. The only mainstream movie included in this list is Star Cinema's Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo starring Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo. The four others are independent films—Jeffrey Jeturian's Kubrador, Brillante Mendoza's Kaleldo, Pablo Biglang Awa and Veronica Velasco's Inang Yaya, and Sherad Anthony Sanchez's Huling Balyan ng Buhi.

According to Gawad TANGLAW's founding chair Dr. Flaviano Lirio, the group chose Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo as the only mainstream movie to be included in the Best Films of 2006 because it "promotes Filipino values." He explains that even after the couple have already married and had their own child, their bond with their parents remain strong.

In addition, Star Cinema will be inducted to Gawad TANGLAW's Hall of Fame for being chosen as Best Producer for five years in a row. Another Hall of Famer is Robinsons Movieworld, which is cited as Best Moviehouse. SM Cinemas shares the award of Best Moviehouse with Robinsons.

Dr. Lirio reveals that it has always been his childhood dream to give awards to the filmmakers and artists alike. "Our objective is to give awards to artists and directors of movies that are for general patronage. Dapat isinasaalang-alang ang epekto ng movies na ito para sa kabataan."

Two awards were created in honor of the two top officers of this group. The Gantimpalang Romeo Flaviano I. Lirio para sa Kapuri-puring Manlilikha (Achiever's Award) goes to Ms. Maricel Soriano while the Gantimpalang Jaime G. Ang para sa Kapuri-puring Manlilikha (Achiever's Award) goes to Ms. Gina Alajar.

Mr. Rodolfo Quizon, more popularly known as Dolphy, will receive the award Gawad Tanglaw ng Pelikulang Pilipino.
