AGB Ratings: Encantadia takes top primetime spot with its highest rating since pilot

Here are the highlights of the comparative AGB Nielsen ratings of GMA-7, ABS-CBN and TV5 programs from September 10-16, 2016 in Urban Luzon.

It seems like GMA-7's Encantadia has finally left FPJ's Ang Probinsyano in the dust. After weeks of an almost even fight against the Kapamilya action series, the Kapuso fantasy drama has taken the lead with its highest rating yet.

Encantadia's episode on September 16, Friday, got a 27% rating, the highest score that it garnered ever since it aired its pilot episode on July 18. On this day, Amihan (Kylie Padilla) had a tragic battle with her sister Pirena (Glaiza de Castro).

In contrast, FPJ's Ang Probinsyano only took in 23.4%.

Encantadia also won three out of five episodes for this given period, with gradually increasing margins.

Another notable event is the finale week of Descendants of the Sun, the hit Korean series on GMA-7's primetime. It aired its finale on September 16, beating Till I Met You by a huge 7.8% margin.

Till I Met You is a romantic drama that features the James Reid-Nadine Lustre tandem. It failed to get higher ratings than Descendants of the Sun since its August 29 pilot.

Another notable event is the finale week of ABS-CBN's Born for You starring Elmo Magalona and Janella Salvador. The family drama ended on September 16, getting 15.9% against Someone to Watch Over Me's 15.4%.

Someone to Watch Over Me, topbilled by Tom Rodriguez and Lovi Poe, lost to Born for You four times out of five.

The biggest premiere for this given period was Pinoy Boyband Superstar, ABS-CBN's new talent search on weekend primetime. Pinoy Boyband Superstar seeks to create a new male group, and it features Aga Muhlach, Sandara Park, Yeng Constantino and Vice Ganda as judges.

Pinoy Boyband Superstar debuted well on its timeslot. Its pilot episode on September 10 got 21%, only a few points lower than GMA-7's Pepito Manaloto: Ang Tunay na Kuwento's 23.9%. The talent show was at the No. 3 primetime slot on that day (tied with 24 Oras Weekend).

Pepito was number one, and number two was Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK), which featured an episode where Jerome Ponce portrayed a gay young man, while Philip Salvador played his grandfather. The dramatic episode garnered a 22.7%, against Magpakailanman's 20.4%.

The Magpakailanman episode featured Emilio Garcia as an old escort in seedy cinemas.

Pinoy Boyband Superstar performed better on the next episode on September 11. It rated 21% against Ismol Family's 21%, taking second place in the primetime top 10.

Here are comparative ratings of GMA-7, ABS-CBN and TV5 programs from September 10-16, 2016, according to AGB Nielsen Philippines survey in Urban Luzon.
