Time spent apart took its toll on the marriage of ex-MTV VJ KC Montero and singer-actress Geneva Cruz.
"The truth is that we have separated. We just kind of grew apart over the two years that we have spent apart. I was in the States for a couple of years [while] she was here working. She has a lot more obligation than I did," KC revealed to Showbiz Central last March 31 at the conclusion of his radio program.
Showbiz Central aired the taped interview yesterday, April 4.
"I was in the States trying to start something there for myself," added KC seriously. "But that didn't work out. We're not the same people that we used to be."
KC's official statement came weeks after it was first reported that the couple are no longer together. At the 10th anniversary party of FHM- Philippines last March 11, KC's brother Troy and longtime girlfriend Aubrey Miles both refused to acknowledge the separation rumor. The rumor eventually turned out to be true, with Geneva confirming it first.
Despite what happened, KC relayed his desire to maintain a close relationship with Geneva's son with first husband and ex-Introvoys drummer, Paco Arespacochaga.
"Heaven [Geneva's son], he's innocent on the whole thing. He still spends time with the both of us and I will continue to be his father as long as he accepts me in their family. No one's pushing me out of that role," said KC.
The Filipino-American radio jock—who also used to host the defunct Sunday musical noontime variety show SOP—commended Geneva for being a "great wife and mother."
KC continued, "Never is a word that I don't use very often and I can't say that things would be like this forever... We just have to see how it unfolds."
Geneva and KC were married on January 4, 2004 in Seattle, U.S.A. The couple has always been rocked with separation rumors even in the past although they've always managed to keep their relationship intact until this recent revelation confirming the breakup.
